    Health Insurance?

So I was thinking after waking up this morning with a sore throat and my car accident last October, I really should get health insurance. Anybody know anything about this? I'm not sure where to really begin as in the past I've always got it through my work. I'm not union yet so I can't get it that way. Any suggestions on the different health insurance companies? Los Angeles area. Thanks.

    Blue Shield
    Blue Cross
    Nationwide
    Health Net

any other suggestions or opinions on these?

    are you employed?

most "good" companies will supply some form of insurance. if you are going to pay out of pocket ... it can be steep. I have United Health Care, and they are fucking pimp.

I have had Blue Cross / Blue Shield. I did not like them ... my co pay was a lot more, pills were a lot more ... la la la. Also the docs were all fucking weirdos. I dunno, just my 12 cents in.

do your homework. that is the best advice i can offer you.

        ^^

I won't even bother with that one. Except to say Canada's Heathcare system is like Teresa's big mouth. Both will weaken and eventually topple, sooner rather then later.

            No prob

But in my defense, it was pretty much political from the get go. Then Digi took it to the next level.

              Re: Health Insurance?

I work freelance so I cannot go through my job. Once I'm union I can get insurance that way, but I'm still working to get to union. So... in the meantime I'm looking around. I have heard good things about Blue Cross, but as with every health insurance company (or any insurance company) there is always complaints and a downside.

What were some of the things that you liked about BC?

On that note, I agree with asdf. I would go with United, its the best. I've heard nothing but bad things regarding BC, even worse then Kaiser.

... i had a lot of coverage issues. for one ... i called and asked if my current doctor was under their plan and i was given a yes. So I go to Doc and have to pay 115.00 as a co-pay ... i was like wtf? on the card it states 20.00? well i paid the 115 even. o it was your normal doc visit. no tests no nothing.

i went to buy some pills for my wife and yet i was told one price one previous time, yet another a second and third. the pharmacy told me it was my insurance company adjusting prices. okay.

                  la la la .

if you just want coverage go with them ... but not under my name nor honor. my little honor i have ... =P

i was just not happy. my worst health insurance ever.

You're screwed basically if you don't work union or full-time...I know mine runs out on my family plan in November and I'm looking at around $290/month for coverage.

Granted it's good coverage, but it's not like I exactly have that money floating around :?

Hi. I just got a job as a financial planner and I've been studying like crazy for the health insurance exam that I'm taking Fri. What do you need the coverage for? You mentioned car accident and a sore throat as your examples - do you want medical expense insurance, accidental death & dismemberment, or disability insurance? But yes, you're in a tough spot since you're not in the union yet. I don't know much, but maybe a basic medical expense policy? It covers hospital and medical expense. You have low limits of coverage, but generally there is no co-insurance requirement and no deductible (or very small one). May not cover regular exams, prescriptions, dental. But California may be different than where I live, so you'll need to do some homework yourself. Remember:
