Latest mix in EQ's Balance series comes from DJ trio SOS, better known as Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid 16B. 'Balance 013' arrives in April.

Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid 16B each made a mark championing the deeper, housier end of progressive via labels such as SexOnWax, Alternative Route and Deeper Substance before teaming up as SOS in 2004. Three heads means three record collections and as expected Balance 13 arrives as a hefty three-disc set with room for the old (Inner City, Aphex Twin, LFO) and the new (Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Ink & Needle, Dusty Kid). There's also cosmic discoists Aeroplane, Lindstrom and AN-2, and the trio even find room for the Cocteau Twins, The Cure and Bryan Ferry.

I've heard a live S.O.S. mix before and wasn't impressed. No direction in the set imo. The essential mix was ok. Again, just lots of choons mixed together. nothing memorable.

I think i'll be looking forward to this one, however. It'll be good to break down each DJ. Desyn is good, sure (i think he just has a good disposal of tracks, rather than being a good dj...his studio mixes, including his essential mix, are way better than the live stuff i've heard), but Demi is better, and I'll bet that most of you will agree after the first listen. There's something trippy about his stuff. I can't say i've heard a 16b set, but i'll check out out soon enough. Love his productions though, so I imagine he'd be pretty decent.

As for other DJ's who need to do a balance, I think Chloe is great and all, loved the kissfm set, but there are way too many other dj's who've been more deserving for a while. Kazell? Skinner (well maybe)? steve porter? KU? Just sayin.....

I can't feckin wait for this one. All three of these guys are amazing at what they do. And OMID has just recently released his new artist album too...which should be pretty sweet, as that guy is one hell of a producer.
