    Interesting, educational watch

I thought this was very interesting. It's approximately 20min long, but definitely worth it IMO

When you are done watching, what do you think?

    Re: Interesting, educational watch

Very interesting indeed and she had me going until the production process. Now I don't know about the US, but in the EU we're pretty conscious of what we put into our products and to what we expose our workers to (trust me, I'm an occupational health specialist). Example: in the EU asbestos were banned in 95 (way too late, I admit), in the US that was much later.

Externalized costs: BS imo, or at least not the entire story. Scale benefits aren't taken into account, so it's kinda simplistic if you ask me.

Consumer economy: spot on! Yup, that's what our economies are based on. But what are you going to do? Consume less? That makes the economy slow down and will create job loss for one...

Disposal: I guess this only flies for the US. When I look at my own country, we hardly use landfills anymore, 90% of the trash we recycle and incinerators have performant filters and the heat is used to produce electricity.

That said, I think it's a good initiative to raise some awareness about the downside of our way of life. Everybody keeps focussing on climate change whereas the waste problem is an equally important issue.

Anyways, I don't know about where you live, but here vast amounts of money are being invested in green economy, renewable energy, etc...

As long as the result is there, I don't really care. I hear what you're saying tho', same thing overhere: "green" cars, "green" detergents, "green" everything. But like I said, as long as we're getting there...

consumption-wise, all we need is just enough food, clothing, and shelter in order not to starve or die of other natural dangers...but no one wants to go back to living in the caves.

                  very interesting.

I said it before, I'll say it again... you cant control behavior with regulation.

People are going to consume what they want and they should be able to. Free markets equals free society

Probably one of the most interesting talk series I have ever seen. An hour each episode but definitely worth a watch.
