    HDTV over the air

So I finally got myself a flat panel TV (37' Visio. Not the greatest TV out there, but for the price, I friggen love it, and holy fuck does the xbox360 look sweet on it).

Has anyone tried over the air HD with an HD antenna?

Here's why I ask. So, I only pay for local channels on my cable (Comcast), but the guy who installed it "conveniently" left the filter off the line that blocks all the other channels, so now, for $16 a month a have basic cable (ESPN, MTV, HGTV, etc...). So when I plugged the analog cable into the back of my new TV I was very supprised to see that I also now get NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS and one or two other high def channels....but they are weird channels...like chanel 3-1, 29-1. Yes, there is dash. I think this means that Comcast is also using a digital signal as well as an analog one and that my TV is able use this signal? Thats my guess, anyways...I am worried that Comcast will somehow now pickup that I am getting more than I pay for (especially since I am intermittently getting the movie channels as well) and restrict my access. If this does happen I will probably get an HDTV antenna for over the air HD. Just wondering if anyone has tried this?

Anyone know what the deal is currently with DTV as well? I have about 150 channels that come in, many of them repeats where as before I had about 60.

you can get hdtv over the air for now, but not when all companies are forced to go from analog to digital in feb 2009. snag it while you can, it won't last much longer.

We get HD tv off the air here and there are hidden channels between the regular channels as well. Quite odd. There's a music channel that we get for free that I've never seen before nor heard of.

when i first got my tv, i had a similar thing happen while awaiting the dvr box to get to the house. i plugged the new tv in with the analog wire that came outta the wall, & was able to receive the HD feeds of the local channels (that were broadcasting HD @ the time) on a #dash# type channel. as far as the cable guy leaving off a filter somewhere on the line to receive more, not surprising. i doubt the cable company knows what you are receiving, only what you are paying & what filters & boxes you do or dont have. hell even then, they still cant get that straight.
