cabernet and merlot chilled. i know, should be room, but i like em cold. always loved old cabernet.
but fuck it, gimme a double bock from belgium or NW USA or a nice dark stout or choco stout.
who says room temp? Some where I read that it is kept cooler than room temp, like 50 F or so, but I am too lazy to search on google atm so it will remain an unknown.

We're planning on hitting some of the more well-known places -- Opus One, Silver Oak -- but would love some input on some places I might not think to go.
I thought Opus One doesn't give tours. Who knew.

That depends on the place where you are, doesn?t it? ...doesn?t say chilled there. If he means "chilled" as in "put it in the refrigerator for a while", well...I personally hate it that way.
Maybe we?re lucky because our average temperatures are similar to those in the chart

my bad on the wording of chilled. I hate chilled wine too. Here room temp is around 72 - 80F so that is what I am use to in drinking wine, but I might get a good chiller to bring it down to the right temp.

I'd like to throw a few new varieties into the mix, the Australian shiraz (my everyday one is the rosemount), a good spanish rioja (great for sangria) and from the white ones a german gurweitzminier (have no idea on the spelling).
toasty, a few vineyards I'd recommend in Napa are:
Stag's Leap - this was the first american wine to take first prize in a tasting vs. the french, the cabernet (especially the SLV) and chardonnay are both excellent and I usually hate chardonnays. Also, it's not a cheap wine, but their prices are so much better at the winery than in stores.
Sterling Vineyards - just for the tram ride alone

The Rosemount Shiraz is what hooked me into wine. Its a great wine IMO

normally i'm anti-resurecting old threads, but a thread on the politics forum was talking about wines, and i just want to say, two-buck-chuck is as good as silver to me. my tastes may not be refined, but the cost can't be beat.
other than that, i stick to Port; love six grapes and aged fladgate.
(if anyone knows a good pinot noir, i'd love to check that out too, have had good experiences with it )
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky
it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles
u can tell the difference between a cheap wine and a decent wine.
for example i went through every wine on the wine list in a bar in England. they all tasted awful and cost a fortune. we just dont have the culture. yet in italy its very difficult to find a bad wine, and even then you are paying so little u dont mind that its not the best.
