At present, my policy with Scientology is to ignore it. This happens to be my same general policy for all stupid people/ideas, because, frankly, there are just way too many stupid people out there for me to worry about all of them. If they get all Waco on us and start setting off bombs in subways, then I will favor lethal force in response.

the branch davidians, from what i recall, kept to themselves and attempted to keep out of society. it was only when the government thought they had too many guns did they come in and try to shut it down. and we all know how it ended.

the difference here is that scientology is outwardly aggressive and the government has been flacid in response. which brings us to the point here....that private people have decided to take up keyboards against them.

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

^^ well yeah I don't like the Scientologists...but have they broken any laws yet? Have they extorted people, broken any kneecaps, put severed horse heads in peoples' beds? I personally don't know... Threatening people with lawsuits may make you an asshole, but it doesn't necessarily make you a criminal.

If they have broken laws, then I'm all for screwing them to the maximum extent, both from a legal perspective and from a police/military presence if necessary. But if they haven't, then I find it a hard sell to go "take them down" just because I think they are dumb and creepy.

A little heads up from Belgium:

After an investigation lasting nine years, with no less than 27 search warrants executed and multiple complaints filed by former members, the long-awaited trial of the Church of Scientology in Belgium is finally due to start. The stakes are high, and the case will have repercussions far beyond our borders. For the very first time, Scientology itself could be convicted of being a criminal organisation.
