that is correct. once a planet enters a black hole, the pull of the black hole completely distorts everything.

i think you are reading the article wrong. the star didn't come through a black hole, it was sent out of a neighbouring galaxy by a black hole. it got ejected when it was close to the event horizon. same principle as the matter that gets ejected by a pulsar.

so if your star gets close to the black hole, it could in fact be ejected when it got too close. conversely, had the star used some ASTRO-glyde, i'm sure it wouldn't have been rejected.
