Duotone - Solace EP
A. Solace
B. Finalrhode
C. Aloe Vera
Release date: 4th of February (beatport excl. pre-release)
Label: Deep Focus 028
Release Info:
The Dutch have always been a gateway for many bands and producers. Over decades they’ve embraced countless unknown and talented musicians and this way given them the opportunity in spreading the word around the Globe. Yet, what most people don’t realise is that the same Dutch seem to piss on their own producers as there’s this strong believe that what comes from far must be better, strange....Often this means one need to gain success abroad first to be recognised in the land of Wooden Shoes.
Duotone consists of Auke Ferwerda and Chris Beemster, two modest and talented Dutch guys who both have a very strong background in music. Trained classical from an early age these guys know what they are doing, their music isn’t exactly what we call average, something about the structures and melodies that make you sit up and listen. Their first offering is a 3 track EP on Deep Focus, all in a unique vain and with their own subtle taste to it.
The EP starts off with the lush and melancholy Solace. It seems that this piece of classical music is hitting all the right spots for all sorts of DJ’s. Sofar, from all the feedback we’ve gotten back, it seems that everybody rewards this little haunting and subtle piece with 9’s and 10’s only which is remarkable for a debut. Solace entertains from start to finish. Clever and modest beats with a minimal approach guide the beautiful melody that flows and slides throughout the whole tune with countless little details. It’s simply stunning in every possible way and will surely create a little buzz for these two guys
Second up is Finalrhode, again the minimalistic approach but in a different vain. Cleverly arranged it fuses minimal, techno and melodic elements and this way taking a more energetic route then Solace. the fat bass line wobbles it’s way and does this with great effect! One of those songs you either like or dislike instantly.
Aloe Vera closes this awesome package. From start to finish this is probably the most dance floor minded of the 3 tracks featured. It sits between techno and progressive and has a great intro and outro to enable some smooth mixing. Duotone’s trademark, their classical inspired melody lines do their trick perfectly. It all sounds logical but simple, how music should sound like but it’s a rare gift.
With this release Duotone makes an awesome debut, showcasing an incredible diverse sound. With upcoming releases on SAW, Hot Kitchen and Deep it’s clear they are taking serious. Focus does it again with a great debut, find out for yourself!
DJ Support:
Anthony Pappa: All three tracks are good and l like this release. I will try to play them out when possible
Eelke Kleijn: Finalrhode is my favourite on this EP. Great groove, simple but effective. Sounds really warm and analogue as well
Steve Mill: thanks for that guys...well produced package..i like Solace very much..great feeling!
Randall Jones: Great release from Deep Focus here. If I'm playing deep house then its got to be spacey and thick. These cuts have a nice, fat lowslung feel and they are deep as HELLLLL! GREAT PRODUCTIONS, GREAT RELEASE !
Tom Morgan: Solid EP, can see myself playing Finalrhode.
Deep C: Solace is amazing and so are the other two
Darin Epsilon: A brilliant collection of tracks filled with originality and contrast. Each song is brimming with emotion, substance, and depth. Really loving Solace in particular, it's going to be great as an opener or closer. Leave it to the Dutch to deliver such a wicked package.
Flash Brothers: Solace is very beautiful, like it!!
Sasha Le Monnier: Solace is a beautiful track with nice emotion to it. Aleo Vear just glides along rather sweetly!
Deko-ze: Loving the mysterious vibe of Aloe Vera!
