It all depends if you're being relocated to a "better" palce. I'd happily move to NYC, or London, BUT I don't think I'd leave Los Angeles for any other city unless they threw silly money at me.Comment

i have an opportunity to relocate to Houston (4th largest city in US) and become the site lead for my organization. would come with more responsibility, cooler town, and money (unsure how much) but no friends/familyComment

^^ha i just moved from buffalo to new orleans today. talk about a climate change. i left to make a "sky's the limit" amount of money down here vs not much back home. and my job will have a direct correlation with rebuilding the city so it's all postive for me. i am fortunate enough to have my aunt here that parties like a rock star, so that helps. as long as you have nothing to lose you might as well try, but it's going to get hot as shit here in a few months and then we'll see if i'm cut out for southern living.Fly? moving up in the company you are in is always a plus (in my eyes), but from what you are saying from no family/friends - is something that you have to take into consideration when they start throwing dollar signs at you. is the amount negotiable? if so, factor in the amount that it's going to take to compensate for not seeing said friends/family.Comment

Do you have the opportunity to return to your old job after 6mos or a year if you don't like it?

well truth be told i moved from utah to vegas for a job but also for my wife (then girlfriend). left all friends and fam behind and my $1,600/month job. Next year I got married and made 10 times as much... Then 2 years later i got offered 50% increase to move to utah again and I said hell no. i think ive made more than 50% on my own though...
leaving friends and fam is tough especially if you dont know anyone. my advantage was that at least i knew someone...Comment

I worked in UK for 10 months in 2005 - 12000 kms away from friends and family, it was tough and lost my marriage over it, but the money was very good. In retrospect would have stayed and tried to find a job closer. Its a tough call pickles.

All in all...I think I will be going back there some time soon
