What the heck!? 2008-02-06: News Flash The site is not closed, nor offline. All news in short:Next week MixesDB will start to change its format.
We will no more offer any downloads.No we're not dead, we're not giving up, we're not sold out, we're simply going to be 100% legal.And against some rumor spread, we will not charge you for the downloads, because we will not offer any downloads at all.Atm the site is password protected so we can adjust the site to the new concept. We will be back some time before March (hopefully). Why the hell!?We had no problems with the law, no worries and no panic please! We just want to avoid that in the future.It's a simple fact that you cannot offer live set downloads 100% legally and esp. not in the dimensions as we did. We do no more take the risk of doing so. The bigger the site grew, the bigger the risk and problems got.In the last time the visitor stats just exploded. That may be good, but think twice. And imagine it going on for another year. What about us!?Although we know we won't see 90% of you again in the future, we would love to see some of you coming back after the change contributing to the database.
About the downloads, well it's easy. All mixes added except some own tape rips and recordings were found via the internet. It's full of sets! Use it to explore other sources than blogs and forums. We'll keep track of what is worth it.Move your lazy ass and create some logins on forums, download some software. What now!?We will keep all the data we have collected in the past year. So nothing will be lost.Now we don't have to take care of keeping all the sets online by adding mirrors and re-upping sets en masse,just cos a host like divshare recently decides to change the rules after 2 years of free service (500 sets went offline by that).We'll have less problems and more time in our hands and it will become an even better database than now, just without downloads. Changesno more downloads provided by usconcentration on tracklistings and incomplete tracklistskeeping track of even more mixes (being 100% legal we finally we can add promos and old tapes)much more details (Artists, Clubs, Events, Radio Stations, Radio Shows, etc.)more coding on the software for more features We will continue adding new sets etc.We will continue to care about correctness cos most do not.The only difference: You have to find new ways of getting the files Change processWe're sorry that we had to close the site temporarily without any warning! But it's the only way.So the site is closed for now and behind closed doors we will start to do the change. Absolutely no idea yet how to do it and how long it will take or when we'll be back. Maybe 2 weeks or more. At least nothing will happen till next week. We'll keep you updated here.The pause may be good so you can chill the fuck out in the shoutbox instead of our Main Page comments
We can imagine your frustration about that, but this is the only safe solution after 1 year of extreme sharing the music we all love.For the leechers of you the downloads may have been the only reason to visit us but the core of the database are the hard facts which we have put so much work at and there is only more to come and to be done.The real shame would be to be forced to close the site just because of the downloads you can get elsewhere aswell.Better to be 100% legal than going off one day. All the hard work will really be worth it in the future. And maybe the haters, rank hunters and those idiots posting fake sets for rapidshare points will learn something from this... You know who you are.So thanks & respect to all contributors before and later, all the people who share by heart for the love of the music in the web, via ftp, torrents and slsk,especially to those paying hard webspace and traffic money just to offer Direct Links for all of us. We're very positive about our relaxed future and after starting the database this may be the second best decision we ever made.We hope you can understand our decision and will support our goals in the future.Or just come back once a week to check the latest fake sets Some may laugh, some may be sad. The Government is to take action against people who illegally download music and films, under new “three strikes” rules to be unveiled next week.
Internet Service Providers will be legally required to take action against any of their clients who access pirated material, according to draft legislation seen by The Times.
Offenders will receive a warning email for their first offence, a suspension for their second and the termination of their contract if they do not comply.
Legal action will be brought against companies who fail to enforce this policy and users names and addresses may be made available to the courts.
BPI chief executive Geoff Taylor has called on ISPs to work with the music business to grow the creative economy.

“An internet that rewards creativity, while offering music lovers unprecedented choice and value for money, is in the long term interest of all of us,” he says.
“We simply want ISPs to advise customers if their account is being used to distribute music illegally, and then, if the advice is ignored, enforce their own terms and conditions about abuse of the account. But despite some agreements in principle, the ISPs refuse to do this on any meaningful scale.”
“For well over a year, the BPI has been trying to encourage ISPs to introduce reasonable measures that could remove the need to bring legal action against the 6-million British broadband customers that regularly use peer-to-peer networks to download music unlawfully, Taylor adds.
“This is the number one issue for the creative industries in the digital age, and the government's willingness to tackle it should be applauded. Now is not the time for ISPs to hide behind bogus privacy arguments, or claim the problem is too complicated or difficult to tackle. It is time they started showing some corporate responsibility and partner with us to allow our digital creative economy to grow.”

True that, but I'm assuming the sets on Mcast are put up for 'promo' use and skirts the legal side of downloading sets and royalties on the tracks used. So thinking maybe MixesDB is only allowing streaming of recorded sets in future instead of letting people download them.

but there will always be somewhere
to download set
there is no amount legislation or internet army
to stop people from sharing information
whether its copyright protected or not.

ah wellz, i was just getting into that site, but whatever from a producers's standpoint im glad they are going legal. dowloading music will kill house music if we don't start supporting the artists.

Fuck that. electronic music was built on piracy. People making records because thy love the music and people copying tape to tape - the only restriction back then was vinyl. That restriction is now gone (thank god) we live in a digital age and why the hell should we not take full advantage of it.

If I can't download sets - How long till dj's have to pay royalty rights in order to play songs in clubs?

your completely right mate and I agree with you to the fullest. I just really can't afford to buy everything I listen to so I don't. as soon as I start making enough money to do so I will. Right now I'm a broke ass student and spend most of my money on books and travel.
When you see my record label high in the sky and my stocks sky rocketing I will be the first to buy all new releases and encourage the growth of the industry.

in all honesty Shpira i know where you're coming from. but just cause the system was built on piracy doesn't mean it should continue that way. Now the big labels got screwed by the digital music revolution - that was great, im all for it, but the producers that make this music need to get paid too. at least the price is better than vinyl at least from a consumers standpoint, 2.50 a track at most is roughly half as much as for a vinyl release (somestime 3 times less).
