I rear-ended someone last night and want to fix the damage myselft. The front grill got smashed (no big deal), but the hood got a little smashed and bent out of shape. I'm thinking of buying a used hood and replacing it myself. The question I have is: do you think the hood can be worked back into shape, or should I just get a 'new' one ?

Also, how much do you think it would cost to have the new hood painted to match the color of the car ?

ok, to fix the hood you would probably have to go to a repair shop, dont think you would be able to fix it yourself. For that down here in Texas if you had to fix a little dent on it and repaint it, you would probably spent something like 200 dlls. To buy a used hood, it would probably cost you something between 100 and 200 dlls, plus probably another 100 to paint it.

so if the damage isnt that bad, i would probably go to a repair shop and have the hood fixed.

speaking from someone who has restored cars before, hoods are a pain in the ass to get to align tightly, even when you buy a replacement. got a pic of the damage?

as for painting it, cost depends on where you go. it's really a shop to shop thing, and regional. definitely don't turn it into insurance tho.

just got an estimate to paint it....they said $350 to $500 !! good old California !!

found a place where I can buy a new hood painted to matched color for $450. Think I'll do that. here is a photo of the damage.

Hoods should never be stretched out and or repaired, the crumple zones are fucked. Always order a new hood and fitment is a PITA always. Carbon Fiber hoods are even worse.

or hire a mexican to steal a hood, you live in cali, god knows mexicans in cali and NY are only good for crime and cleaning,.

look up jeep forums maybe some one will sell u one..
or get a quote for the hood from the dealer.shouldnt take more than 15mins to DIY....
