ZIMBABWEAN opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was robbed by three gun-totting thugs in Johannesburg on Tuesday night, media reports said.
Tsvangirai, who arrived in South Africa earlier Tuesday, and four members of his delegation had been held at gunpoint in Bryanston, northern Johannesburg.
“Sibotshiwe says the gunmen then stole all their possessions and fled,”
A laptop computer and other electronic devices were among the items stolen.
Tsvangirai is not the first high profile visitor violently robbed on the streetrs of Johannesburg in recent months.
Last year, former CNN correspondent Jeff Koinange and his wife were robbed at gunpoint outside CNN's office.
Koinange said he had a gun pointed to his head while four armed young men stole everything he was carrying.
But he and his wife did not suffer injuries in what he called a "brazen" assault that occurred in broad daylight with people walking by and cars driving past.
This country sucks at the best of times
