Ever tried to break a CD in half?

Accidently burnt a file as data instead of mp3, rendering the CD as useless... so I thought I'd snap it in half.

Except I couldn't, so I stood on it... four times. At which point it didn't break in half but exploded into a zillion pieces which I had to sweep up. And now my eyes hurt. Although that may because I've not been in front a computer screen for two weeks. And I'm tired.

    Just a little story.

No, it's best to wear safety goggles when doing that. Man did you retain nothing from shop class?

Shop class? Is that where you learn to shop? What's that got to do with CDs? Unless you're buying them...

Hmm...Maybe I should've called it Wood Shop. You know, where they teach you to put safety goggles on before you do anything constructive or destructive. "Learn to shop"...man you cra-zy.

It's cool. You have to do it the right way though. If you bend it in one direction then it just breaks. If you bend it the other way all of the thin filmy material that holds the data disintegrates and flys everywhere. You're right though - Don't do it near anyones eyes.

Ahh, but I chose to write the whole disc so I couldn't use it for anything else...

Re: Ever tried to break a CD in half?

when I was a kid my dad broke countless cds that I had borrowed from some friends that had some vulgar words and such..... even on some psy goa cds that had titles like " orgasmic trance " or what not.

He'd break the cds to my face and amazingly enough I never got hurt

yeh, I've done it both ways... had it explode into confetti, and other times had them not even break, just would bend into a taco. And yeah, I always close my eyes if I ever even attempt to break one after the explosion 6+ years ago.

With technology such that files on your hard drive are not considered unrecoverable even after 5 low level formats, breaking a CD is a refreshingly thorough way to distroy unwanted data.

...except that those files that you want "permanently" destroyed have/had to reside on a computer somewhere for burning, even if it did go through 5 low-level formats, they're not permanently destroyed
