Re: Gary Gygax, Dungeons & Dragons creator, dies
Uh, I don't think this is a situation where the unwashed stupid masses have to "evolve" to a point that they "get" the game. Dungeons and Dragons is focused on the fantasy world of imps, druids, elves, orcs, wizards, garden gnomes, etc. Either you get into that shit or you don't.
I happen to fall into the "not" category. Notwithstanding virtually universal praise and a ridiculous collection of Oscars, I fell asleep during Lord of the Rings, barely made it through the second and haven't even bothered with the last one. WOW stands for World of Whyamiwastingmytimewiththis, as far I'm concerned. That fantasy shit just isn't my thing, and whether I have to use MY BRAIN with MY CREATIVITY or someone is just spoon feeding it to me, I just can't get into it. It isn't lack of ability to comprehend this complex game, it's lack of desire and complete and utter ambivalence on my part. I doubt I'm alone on this.
Again, though, to each their own.
