Using one cable jack for two tvs?

If I get a double coaxial adapter and split the cable for two different tv's will each tv have to be watching the same channel? I know the quality will deter, but my main concern was being able to watch different shows on each tv at the same time, because I only have on cable jack in my crappy apartment.

You should be able to watch different channels on separate TVs. I haven't found the singal deterioration to be that noticiable, so long as you are using standard def. In college we split one line 13+ times in our fraternity house and it seemed fine to me.

I have one connection split - one for the tv and the other into the cable modem since there is only one connection on each floor of my house (I didn't even catch that when they built the house! argh)
