    Re: Your classic Essential Mix?

yeah, that digweed 95 set...is pure bliss. it would actually rank it just higher than his Bedrock-based on. but only by a little.

another classic for me that got cattaneo on my radar

Cattaneo Essential mix at Creamfields 24th August 2002:

    01 - Futureshock - Frequency (Fuju)
    02 - King Unique - Sugarhigh (Junior)
    03 - Spacefunk - Evilmoogafooga (Whoop)
04 - Way Out West - Unknown (White Label)
05 - Tom Mangan Chutney (Original Mix) (White Label)
06 - Tom Mangan - Chutney (sixe 9 Reinterpretation) (Bedrock)
    07 - Syntax - Pray (White Label)
08 - Danny Sullivan + Kemist - ?Snake Charmer? (Hooj)
09 - Tomaz and Filterheadz - ?Sunshine? (Intec)
10 - Chemical Brothers - ?Electronic Battle Weapon? (White Label)
11 - Cass and Slide - ?Mind Remind? (Fire)
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

Am I somewhere....in the corners of your mind....

thesightless - dunno if you know, but the second track in that Digweed/Sasha EM (titled JMJ) is actually:

            Junkie XL-Zerotonine (Slackers Mix 2)

A 2nd remix that Slacker did. Everyone caned the main slacker mix and this one seemed to disappear. Great track

I notice that a great many of these sets are from 1999 to 2003. Are the members here older, or is the music not as memorable these days? Just a thought, not trying to start a "music this day is ..... " argument.

2003 probably marked the start of the end of the progressive scene as we knew it (the odd noteable exceptions aside) - not a lot of decent sets were aired in 2004 (although Sasha's part of the Renaissance EM was decent), and Tong seemed to pick other producers with the onset of electro.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

music isn't as memorable. when bog-standard prog-fodder evolved with extra bleeps and bloops and was made with casio keyboards, it was bad. and then they started using computers to play it too.

Compare Belfunk with COMA and you'll get what i'm talking about.

although i kind of agree as this was the tragic year of mixes from lee haslam, the tidy boys and judge jules, there were some shining lights in the form of Masiello, Mojo and Dekay.
