you're actually not supposed to shave against the grain. first pass you shave with the grain, second pass you shave perpendicular (sideways) to the grain.
Good luck with that 88. I would practice on someone else first..
Seriously though, a tip for anyone out there using disposables or Mach 3's, Schick, any sore bought razor. When you start a new razor, when you are done with it, take a hairdryer and actually run it hot to dry the blades completely. Then put the razor where it won't get damp. Whatever you do, don't store it in the shower!
Razors don't wear out because of cutting hair. Wear is almost completely from the corrosion that happens as the blade slowly dries. Then the next time you use it, the hair chips the blade fiercely because the metal, especially at the thin edge, has weakened. I heard this on a radio shopw a couple of years back and thought I'd try it. Razors are expensive! I kid you not. I go through maybe one razor every 2 months, instead of every 5 days to a week. In fact, in two years I have only gone through 10 razors and for the past 7 months, I've been shaving my head too. I bought a 20 pack of Schicks at Sams Club two years ago for twenty bucks, and it's only half gone. This only takes me about 20-30 seconds each time, and it's already saved me in the hundreds $$. No sh*t.
I like your Christ.
I do not like your Christians.
Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. Mahatma Gandhi
Have also read that after drying, keeping the blades submerged in oil helps to preserve them.

Oh. My. God. James absolutely obliterated the island tonight. The last time there was so much destruction, Obi Wan Kenobi had to take a seat on the Falcon after the Death Star said "hi and bye" to Leia's homeworld.
I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.
just finished the first shave. damn it was good. I'm a little raw, but all is well. Only two nice little slices...both on the jaw line at right about the same spot. I'm not used to using my left hand shaving whatsoever...so that's also something I've gotta work on. Probably need to go invest in a decent brush cause barbasol can blow my ass. (I've never used shaving cream before with my mach 3's...always have dry shaves).
tell ya what tho! my cheeks are smooth as a baby's ass. no lie. i'm really quite impressed, though it took me five passes.
word. well if any of y'all have questions i can answer, or you know whatever.... just pm me or bump this thread.
seriosly...smoothest shave i've ever had....
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky
it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles
I'm intrigued, I might have to look into this.. at first it seems a bit pretentious, but if you are saying the closeness is as a baby's arse, I'm all for giving it a whirl

Thanks for the tip but i don't think i have reached my puberty stage yet .. i am smooth as a babies bottom as u said 88Mariner.. good to hear that all is well and u are still alive
sounds interesting, and it probably a lot more cost-effective. Though, if what Cactusbeats said about the corrosion is true, how do you keep a razor like that sharp? Sharpen it, or also dry it real quickly after shaving?
Sorry, don't have one myself BUT my barber lady back in Japan uses one every time I see her. She lathers the crap out of my areas and goes with the grain. The feeling afterwards is well, for lack of better terms..the shit.

He was talking about disposable razors. Still, most straight razors are not stainless steel (the good ones anyways), so you'd need to be careful to dry them after usage.
