If you want to stay at a casino, there's also the MGM, Motor city and Greektown casino's in detroit. Greek town is the closest, within walking distance I believe.

There are some pretty cool towns outside of detroit as well if you want to find a cheaper hotel room. These towns all have a pretty great bar scene with lots of "traditional" live music. Check out Royal Oak and Ferndale. Both these cites are on Woodward Blvd, which is the main road into the heart of Detroit.

being within walking distance from hart plaza is key, and being right across the street is extra nice.

festival from 12-12, it's nice to have the option to go in and out if necessary.

Question to all - any info/thoughts/tips on the pre-opening parties? Just trying to determine how much that Friday will be worth it..

Can't wait to hit this spot up...

Astoria Pastry Shop was established in 1971 in the Greektown District of downtown Detroit, Michigan. Astoria Pastry Shop has received many awards over the years and is widely considered the preeminent bakery in the metropolitan Detroit area.

Unless I'm mistaken, this is happening at some point on the first day of DEMF in St. Andrews Hall... Minus's big 10 year anniversary event. This is the only US show.

I've heard about this on other boards, and they're marketing the hell out of this... There's this whole schtick with this cube which if you touch you get in the running to win some expensive music equipment...some special membership card with some microchip in it that they're pushing for purchase...a ton of big name sponsors...I don't even know all the details.

Featuring specially crafted effects, lighting, etc. and unique collaborative performances involving Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Gaiser, Heartthrob and some other special guests.

Well, this explains the relative dearth of Minus presence at DEMF this year...

also, afterparty list is really filling up!

Ones I'm scoping out so far include:

                              Saturday

Teknokolor Dream - at Bert's on on Broadway
                              Line-up /
Kate Simko (live), Dirtybird (live), Miss Fitz & K.atou

                              Sunday

Beretta Music: Revolution - at The Works

                              Line-up /
Troy Pierce, Reference (Luke Hess & Brian Kage), Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss, Seth Troxler, Marko Furstenberg, Arthur Oskan, Keith Kemp, Alland Byallo, Joshua Harrison

5th Annual DEMF Afterhours 'Substance' - at Bert's on Broadway
I really only wanna say hi to Joel and see Maetrik in this one...

Joel Mull, James Ruskin, Radial, Function, Anton Pieete, Maetrik, Kyle Geiger, Jason Emsley, Kero, Punisher, Frankie Vega, Project 313, Corbin Davis, Jason Patrick, Rex Sepulveda, John Overfiend, Jeremy Nida

                              Monday

Need I Say More pt.3 - at Old Miami

Not sure what happened to part 2... Supposedly Seth Troxler and Ryan Crosson are throwing this party, so I'm sure this lineup will fill up. Last year, at least, this venue was the scene of by FAR the dopest afterparty I attended.

                              Line-up /
Jan Krueger (hello? repeat) and other people playing records.
