    Re: Demf 08

Well I just got home and must say that I had an absolutely amazing weekend. I'm definitely going to become a regular at this festival.

Tons and tons of great music! Alex Smoke and Josh Wink have my vote for best sets of the weekend.

When I get around to it I'll post some pictures.

              ^^^^I love it.....

M_nus honcho Richie Hawtin has finally revealed what The Cube is all about.

              '...overall it's just a dressed-up promotional tool...'

"The Cube seems to be nothing more than a high-tech communication device to connect members to the Contakt text messaging database."

              LOL

^^ that's some great investigative journalism by the guys and girls at 365! yes, OBVIOUSLY it's a promotional tool what were they expecting, the cure for cancer? not sure why everyone is getting so bent out of shape about it.

                    Magda.....wtf?

Her set on Sunday at the festival was HORRIBLE!! I only stayed around for the first 15 minutes, or 3 train wrecks, which ever came first. Im not talking about little bobbles but full on make you cry wrecks. Was this a hallucination or did this really happen?

Other than that I had a great time!! Still my favorite event of the year. Richie and Dubfire killed. Konrad Black, Heartthrob and Wink were also on point. Wink was about 20 min late to the show. Went directly from the airport to the decks and was a little off at first but got in the groove quickly.

                    Zabiela threw down..Benassi was lame...

One of the most humorous things I noticed over the weekend:

Stopped by the Pioneer Stage during Benassi and it was hilarious. That tent was so packed full of strung out candi kids that you couldnt fit one more pacifier in the place. It was a sweaty mass of uneducated bodies being thrown around like shoes in a dryer

Then at the Richie show...such a difference. Everyone was so civil. There was more than enough room in the crowd for everyone to breath, dance and move around as they please and you could tell everyone was actually enjoying the music. Really got a kick out of this observation. What a difference.

Cant wait till next year. Hopefully I can get to meet some of the fellow [ms]'ers next time.

                      review:

-DBX live was one of the coolest musical performances i've witnessed ever. He put on a clinic on what mnml is. ALL HARDWARE, NO MOUSE. He rode a kick drum for ever, then subtly dropping in a clap and the crowd exploded. txtbook. Baby Judy and the vocals live?????? So awesome.

-HalfHawaii - gotta be honest, i dug Bruno Pronsato solo @ olso better. Really dug the first hour of their live pa, chunky funky sickness. Bruno's new album is heat btw.

-Zip - can't really explain this dude if you've not heard him. Stripped down house music 101. Guy is THE don. Always impressed. Perlon rspkt!!!

-Konrad Black - dude isn't blowing your mind, but he gets it done. Soooo funky. Danced the whole time.

-Magda, i agree, first part of her set was hit or miss. Latter part, tho, if you stayed, she got detroit glitchy funky. Reminded me of Magda before she got all M@nus's up. She's still bringing it, really happy to hear get back to her roots at the end.

Alex Smoke/Alex Under live - headed over to their tent after zip, jesus fking christ- they bored out my asshole with pumice and heat. relentless techno. they never let up. i was in the mob on the floor for about an hour and had to bail, just mentally and physically had enough of the festival that day before afterhours, but they brought it heavy.

-OSLO - temporary tatoos party - if you missed it, you missed it. Jamie Jones FTMFW!!!!!!! Dude isn't trying to play anyone's sound, be anyone, just dropping bad ass underground jams. Whew, what a hot sweaty clinic he put on. Very impressed. But i was probably the most impressed by Martin Landsky. Im not the biggest fan of his productions, not that they aren't cool, just not my style- but dayum he brought it afterhours techno style. It must have been 110 degrees in there, zero air circulation, we ate all the weak people and danced it out. New found respect for that guy.

Monday - 7am - Old Miami pt 3. I can't explain it. If you've never made this morning party, there is nothing i can tell you about it. What a ride. 10 hours.

DEMF smokes festivals. So laid back. Get some. Bring on 09.

^^^ DBX was awesome, both Alexes were good too. I totally didn't get Zip - in fact, I've never heard anything from him I've enjoyed. Half Hawaii was not as good as I had hoped, but then again they were also on that horrible Vitamin Water stage. Glad Jamie had a good night - I've seen him before and it seems he can tend to either be solid or be totally off his groove...but when he's on it, the results are great

well yes. but again - of course it's hype. that was the whole point: just to be a marketing gimmick on the side. really has nothing whatsoever to do with the music...

they can market whatever they want, doesn't personally offend me. I'll ignore it and still evaluate the music based on how it sounds.

                            I had a great time.

                            My standouts were:

Carl Craig, Alex Under, Alex Smoke, James Zabiela, Newcleus, Egyptian Lover, Oscar Mulero, Speedy J, Justin Long. I really enjoyed how Josh Wink programmed his set. Jooris Voorn was a treat. Watching all the guidos push up front for Benassi as I was leaving Zabiela's tent was hilarious.

Enjoyed the TV Bar afterhours with Maetrik, Pheek, Camea, Crosson and also enjoyed Plaslaiko's afterhours though it ended rather early. Friday nights' afterhours was a blast too where some of my good friends like Dustin Zahn played. Verbos and the like dropped by and it had a nice real chill vibe to it.

I completely agree. I had not heard any of his music before then and I was astounded by his performance. One of the best live acts there no doubt!
