Carl Cox - Back to Mine

Stepping up to the plate for the 19th excursion of this quintessential compilation series for 'after hours grooving' is our very own techno legend Carl Cox.
Having grown up with the sound of soul in his blood, hijacking his folks' Booker T and the MGs, Aretha Franklin and even Elvis 45s to get his family moving, he has now established himself as a true legend in his own right at the forefront of dance music. His exclusive selection for Back To Mine, recorded live in the summer of '04 at Caf? Mambo in Ibiza, takes in this full spectrum of influences and personal favourites, as well as showcasing one of his own productions, the mesmeric Mission (Give Me Your Love).

This selection, seamlessly mixed where the beats allow it, takes in the disco-heavy influences that form the roots of his musical career, delving a little further out of the norm for The Style Council's classic Long Hot Summer and even offering a dose of original RnB supergroup Jodeci in the form of You Got It.

Cox's own production Mission (Give Me Your Love) from his forthcoming album The Second Sign provides a taste of what to expect from him in the coming months, and helps close the album along with two majestic cuts from 808 State and Coco Steele and Lovebomb.

I love when Carl Cox gets funky, like for instance at the terrace @ Space in Ibiza, but his latest sets are too much hard techno for me ears.

With the exception of FACT II (which is a classic), Carl's CD's are good, not great. That being said, I'm curious as to what ce could do in a comp like this one. On the surface it seems like a bad fit, but I'll still give it a shot regardless...

Nice to see Carl Cox coming out with a new mix cd but hopefully this one will be good. So of his radio sets i heard recently have not been very good.
