    Dear iTunes

WARNING: Useless rant coming up. Good for nothing but I need it.

Thanks to MCast and using podcasts there I have to check for things in iTunes more often than I would like to in my private life. As much as I like my Ipod the player ITunes SUCKS for many things imo starting with crap like having weekly updates.

There can't be so many improvements that justify so many updates..I already see it coming when I open it and only wait for the "new version available" box to come up. Annoying as fuck (not the pop up because I could turn it off if I wanted to) and each time I think what new commercial elements they have added and methods to spy you out to your bones to get a nice profile from you for free so I do not install each single update they offer.

What about offering me the Safari browser lately and even choosing it for my by default? Always a shady method to trick users by checking additional programs like they are essential elements by default so some users install it because they are unsure, don't bother or overlook it. Having to install Quick Time is quite obvious and I would not rant about this (maybe about the fact the installation puts an icon on my desktop without asking I have to delete each time lol) but please go away with Safari. Even if it would be the coolest browser on Earth, the majority of websites does not support it and end of story. I use iTunes to play and something buy music and not to raise your market shares in browsers. I am looking for a Player update so what has your supa dupa browser to do with it?

I also don’t like the regional limits. Why can't I choose to which markets I am connecting? European stores suck so much if you compare their content to other regions and for most USA stores it would work for me to purchase music and isn't this what you are looking for in the end? Somehow I do not get the idea behind this. Proclaiming infinity possibilities in world wide available content whilst at the same time only showing your users what you think the region should be able to see to avoid any potential problems? I can even understand it to some extent for stores but why can't I see reviews and ratings from people outside Europe on free world wide available contents? In this particular case, the World Wide Web is small in iTunes. Or in other words: Distribution channels > user behaviour.

Last point on my useless rant is about how much it sucks that you can organize your Music nicely in iTunes but whatever is put in the iTunes folders is no longer usable for anything else thanks to the great renaming conventions in iTunes.

there is an option when you install and in the preferences (Advanced Tab, then unclick the top 2 boxes)... this will keep the filenames and stuff the way you have em and not 'organize' everything itunes style.

also, in the music library screen, u can click on the artist or name or album buttons at the top to organize the screen.. of course this means you will have to update the file info with artist names and stuff... but its not that difficult.

i do agree that itunes can be a headache, but i disable all the musicstore and radio and all the playlist junk to make it do what i use it for which is primarily as a player and ipod syncing.

imo it is highly customizable.. just have to take the time to customize it to your liking

^^ Good hint with the renaming option, thx Brad but ITunes is too much for what I need..am obviously no target iTunes user lol. I want a player and subscribe to/listen to podcasts, don't need the boat load of options it has and what they have chosen as default for users..reminds me about what Microsoft is doing with users who do not have time to look behind their "offerings" lol.

i am right there with ya tomtom... which is why i disable 90% of their options, haha

only thing i use it for is the player, podcasts, and ipod features.

i really like the miniplayer feature.. also one of the big reasons i use it too

I want an app to play music, simple as. I don't need no fucking media library or anyone to organize shit for me cos the OCD in me organizes and tag all my music!

BTW did you know, if your iPod is manually managed, if you have smart playlists in your iPod, you CANNOT automatically sort them the way you sort their views in iTunes by clicking on the column you want?

But Apple lets you manually replicate the sort order by right clicking on the playlist and selecting 'copy to play order.'

But this selection doesn't stick, and you have to manually do it with every smart playlist before you eject your iPod.

Gimme foobar or cog anyday. But I still need damn iTunes to put songs in my iPod. ARGH.
