Applescal – Joey’s Mouse EP
A. Joey’s Mouse
B. Do The Night
C. Back Home Again
Release date: 9th of April (beatport excl. pre-release)
Label: Groovecollection Originals 008
Release Info:
This release is kind of a special one. Months ago we were introduced to an unknown guy named Pascal Terstappen, artist name Applescal. After hearing a number of tracks we were immidiately impressed by the quality of this 20 year old. Surprised to say the least as he wasn’t already signed elsewhere, although the guys from Manual Music also had their ears open. This EP was supposed to come out earlier, but the release date changed as none other than Anthony Pappa decided to put title track Joey’s Mouse on his Moments compilation. But now it’s time for a three track solo EP by prodigy Applescal. Enjoy!
“Joey’s Mouse” is one of those tracks that stands out on the dancefloor. Maybe it’s because of the original sounds used, maybe it’s because of the extreme catchyness or maybe because of the clever arrangements. But somehow, some way you just know you’re dancing and listening to dance music in its purest form. Techy yet melodic, groove with a great drive and border crossing this one.
Another great stormer is “Do The Night”. A track with great percussive elements, a rumbling bassline and melodic sweetness. A builder too as the track gets heavier and heavier after a subtle start. “Do The Night” is one of those tracks that puts a smile on your face because of its beauty, but at the same time will get the whole club going.
“Back Home Again” takes a more experimental approach with its freaky breaks and tempo changes. But also because of the off-note sounds used, electronic harmonics and acidic sounds. This one is a pleaser for the fans of the Border Community type of stuff.
