Yep, Randi Rhodes, when called upon to apologize for calling Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro "fucking whores," declined to do so and quit instead.
Let me say this:
1. I've heard Randi's show, and I'm not a big fan. I don't hate it, but I don't love it, either. She's probably further left than I am, but more importantly, I just don't find it very entertaining, and I can't tell you the last time I actually listened to it.
2. Although I don't like Clinton one bit, I thought calling her and Ferraro "fucking whores" was more than a little over the top.
With that being said, good for her for not apologizing. It seems like we live in this culture where people say things they mean and then capitulate when pressured to do so. There are times that an apology is necessary (think Mel Gibson), but Randi clearly believes that Clinton is a fucking whore, so kudos to her for not bowing down to pressure to retract the statement.
It happens so frequently in a partisan setting where Republicans, who have mastered the art of attack politics, will feign outrage at a comment made by some democrat (often about Bush) and will press, press, and press until the democrat finally bows to the pressure and apologizes, often while weeping. I for one am happy to see a democrat stand up and say, "You know what, I meant what I said, and I have no intention of apologizing for it, even if it means I lose my job."
+1 to Randi Rhodes for sticking to her guns.
