    Passionfruit Mousse

Have you seen this recent story about how Cindy McCain's family recipes on the McCain website were actually lifted directly from the Food Network's website?

I'll be honest -- I could really care less whether Cindy McCain has her own special family recipe for Ahi Tuna with Napa Cabbage Slaw, whether she uses a friend's recipe, or whether she ripped off a recipe and tried to pass it off as her own. Truth be told, as much money as that woman has, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that she'd never touched raw tuna in her life and that her idea of "preparing food" is directing someone else to do it.

What is completely silly, though, is the fact that presidential candidates are evidently posting their wives' recipes on their campaign sites. I can hear the voters now...

"Yeah, I'm bothered that McCain wants to stay in Iraq, but his wife's beef stroganoff saved my ass at last week's Dinner Club, so he's my guy."

"Hillary's white chocolate and apricot cookies are so good, imagine how well she'll govern!!!"

"Why did I vote for Obama? It was Michelle's fruit salad."
I realize that asking voters to pay close attention and vote on a reasoned evaluation of the issues may be too much to ask, but can we at least not encourage voters to make voting decisions based upon utterly asinine criteria?

I do wonder if McCain will continue to post recipes on his campaign site, now that it's been revealed to all be completely contrived.

This is a rhetorical question, by the way. I unfortunately know the answer.

Actually, it's not reasonable to ask voters to judge candidates on real criteria. Not when conservatives are buying the line that McCain is going to reduce the scope of government, not when democrats think Hillary will get the troops out of iraq. Not when they both are pretty much one-in-the-same. If they're going to believe bullshit about REAL POLICY, then you just can't expect voters to think, and think critically.

Now that I think about it, maybe a bake-off wouldn't be too bad a way to get this political shitstorm over with. Because, what it boils down to, is whose beef stroghanoff is better: It's still stroghanoff, but one has a wee bit more salt. It's still stroghanoff, though. But at least you have the perception that you're given a choice.

btw, I think what's more interesting is her drug-addiction and how she got a slap on the wrist. Of course, when your progeny of a wealthy person and you marry a politicaly powerful person who has just ditched his now crippled ex wife, surely everything will go her way. (Just imagine, all the crazy drama of the clinton administration coupled with the policy aims of the Bush administration. Ruminate on this...)

^^ so you think Obama's going to necessarily be any different than those two in terms of "real policy"?

but this is hilarious btw I love seeing the ridiculously orchestrated lengths that these people go to to project the image of being normal human beings when they're clearly not.

I definitely think Obama will be different. To what degree I'm not sure. But it will at least be a different course of action than the continuation of Bushonian Ideology. you know, Bigger Debt, Bigger Wars, Bigger Government, now with more irresponsibility!

I really do think we're fucked as a society. I do have my hands tied behind my back. I would have different candidates all around.

Let's put this in context: He'll different in terms of REAL POLICY as compared to Bush. You can't say the same with Clinton or McCain.

To quote a recent conservative on the case for Obama, "For conservatives, Obama represents a sliver of hope. McCain represents none at all. The choice turns out to be an easy one"

^^ I agree with you in relation to McCain... But I'm just not seeing 2 things:

            1. How is Clinton is so much more similar to McCain than Obama?

Go look at their voting records. They're the same like 90+ % of the time! They're both party line Democrats and were rated among the most liberal in 2007.
            Clinton's voting record: http://www.votesmart.org/voting_cate...p?can_id=55463
            Obama's voting record: http://www.votesmart.org/voting_cate...hp?can_id=9490

Now look at McCalin's voting records...not nearly as similar.
Vote Smart provides free, factual, unbiased information on candidates and elected officials to all Americans.

Even the candidates admit this about themselves. Why do you think the race was as close as it was for as long as it was between the Democrats? Cuz they're so similar on most of the fricken issues that they've been struggling to differentiate themselves!

            2. How is Obama going to translate into smaller government?

As per #1 above, if both Obama and Clinton want nationalized healthcare, investment in renewable energy, get out of Iraq, renegotiate NAFTA, pro-choice, help homeowners in foreclosure, more tax credits for education, repeal tax cuts, blah blah on and on...that does not imo have "smaller government" written all over it. They're Democrats, for God's sake; they increase government and tax the rich. Broadly speaking, that's what Democrats do - for better or for worse.

Mind you, none of this is even to say that Obama or bigger government is necessarily "bad" at this juncture; I'm just not seeing the policy differences and Hillary/McCain similarities.

^ it won't. of course, now that i think about it, there hasn't been a reduction in government in a while. Maybe bringing the troops back would do that in some respect. I didn't say Obama was lovely or fantastic, but I think the alternatives are.....eh...horrible.

Quicker we can bring back the troops, the quicker we can start paying off this debt, the less we have to borrow from china to fund wars, and so forth.

I do mean 'sliver' of hope. but that's hope nonetheless.

edit*: looks as if obama is talking about reviewing Bush administration crimes (over at huffington post). Also not a bad idea.

^^ ok. just clarifying. I'm actually leaning towards Obama over McCain at this point myself. Obama talks a great game, don't get me wrong...I just sometimes get a little bit nervous not only by the fact that he is so party-line Democratic, but also that there isn't that much hard history with him (he pulls that "non-vote" card an awful lot...). But I suppose a bit of a wild card is better than the current policy

You would think that having already gotten busted once for lifting recipes from the web, it would occur to Cindy McCain when submitting recipes to submit something original, or at least make sure that the recipe wasn't easily identifiable as someone else's. You'd be wrong, though.

                    Per Wonkette:

Cindy McCain Continues To Steal Easily Googlable Recipes

A few months ago, John McCain’s second and current wife, “Trollop” Cindy, was caught stealing recipes from the Food Network and publishing them as her own material, a simple lapse of ethics that you’re supposed to learn, and master, at age four. To atone for this, Cindy fired a hapless intern. But the problem was systemic! Cindy has contributed another recipe, this time to Parents magazine, for Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies. This recipe was, of course, directly cribbed from Hershey’s website. Th-that’s not ch-change we-ee can b-believe in. In fact, it’s copyright infringement!

To be clear, this doesn't matter at all. It is pretty funny, though.
