    Whole lotta shakin' goin' on

Is it just me, or does it seem like the earth has been a little restless lately? I guess Reno has been deluged with over 1000 quakes over the course of the last 2.5 months -- but at least that's an area where quakes are relatively common, although that's a lot for the region. After one that we felt in St. Louis last week, we had one that was actually centered in St. Louis Monday, and they had a quake in Washington DC within the last couple of days. Tokyo had a big one (6. a few hours ago.

Maybe those of you in SoCal will shrug this off, but I thought it was interesting. Not that any of them are enormous, but the frequency and placement is odd.

Tell you what, I'm not real sure what we did, but Mother Earth is pissed, and now she's recruited Mother Nature to pitch in as well. Another massive quake, this time in China, plus the tornadoes and fires here and the cyclone in Burma. Not a good week from a natural disaster standpoint.

We've been feeling some shudders here as well, which we never do.

i don't think they're happening more frequently, i just think they're being recorded and reported more. 20 years ago, information didn't travel quite as fast as it does today.

I agree. Over the past couple of years I was wondering the same thing, how messed up the world seems to have become. But has it always been this way and we are just now at a point in time where we have so much info at our finger tips pretty much instantly

I definitely think that's true as to all of the fucked up shit that people do that previously would have just made the local newscast but is now national news, due to the viral nature of the internet. For large scale natural disasters, though, I feel like we're always known about that sort of thing -- we're talking about a cyclone that killed over 100,000 people, a nearly 8.0 earthquake killing thousands, and a swath of tornadoes in the last couple of days. I think they gets covered in any era.

With that said, though, I don't mean to suggest that the end of days is upon us or anything -- just that it's odd that it would all happen so close in time. Over the arc of geologic time, there are bound to be instances where a lot of stuff happens at once. With the quakes in particular, I wonder if it's not a situation where the earth is kinda cracking its knuckles, and we'll see a burst of them together, and then all will be quiet again for thousands of years.

Who knows, though -- certainly not me...

the end is not near. people have been saying that bullshit since the 1700's.

the earth is just a bit pissed off at what has been going on around the surface. All the bad karma going on between people and countries. The earth has it's own form of obtaining the balance.
