This year we hit up the Pawnshop, Karu Y for OM, Shellborne Hotel, King Street’s Anniversary Party, Co-Op at Jasmine, and our coverage of the Beatport Stage at the Remix Hotel.
This week come to you from our headquarters for the week at the National for the Remix Hotel. We had our own Red Bull on the Move suite located near the Beatport stage where we were able to set up camp and interview DJ’s and hang with friends and family while enjoying a few cocktails and guitar hero.
Start if off this week with Sex on Substance (SOS), which is a trio comprised of Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid 16B. These friends have drawn inspiration from one another from their rich musical heritage and from their beloved Deeper Substance and Sexonwax labels. All three as individuals have excelled in their own rights in the electronic music scene, but they now believe in the “rule of threes” that three heads are better than one and six hands are better than two.
They have already seen success playing out live after their initial shows in London back in 2004. They now have a legendary Ibiza event at El Ayoun during the opening and closing weekends and have been rewarded with a nomination as “Best Newcomer” in the 2006 annual Ibiza DJ Awards.
Now comes along their new release titled “Balance 013” which is a three-disc opus using many of their signature re-edits, top-drawer treasures from underground troves, and a few kinky surprises out of left field.
This journey has many dreamy soundscapes that turn to deep and acid funk with special surprises of The Cure’s ‘Lullaby’ and Freddie Mercury’s voice asking, “is this the real life?” The mix ends with full-on clubland grooves through the three heads of Omid 16B, Demi and Desyn Masiello.
