How about the Cowon X5: http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/iaudio/x5/
They go for less than 200, have 30 gig drives, line in recording and more.

I still have an iRiver product but its on its way out. Unfortunately iRiver isn't doing much line in stuff anymore. I had Cowon in mind as a replacement but I got a new Pocket PC phone which will work for day to day listening. For recording my iRiver still works, if it stops working for me and I need a portable recording solution, I'll get a Cowon.

Hmm just read this thread this morning and though why not get a iriver just for recording. I have a 40 gig ipod and just bought a 2 gig E10 for 87 bucks.. so i decided to just try it out with 1 track..the track i quickly recorded is Aril Brikha - Aqua.. Now it does sound a bit distorted but that is the sound in the track itself.. but my question Jib's is this.. what program do u use to get the sound right and to normalize it..

When i recorded the track i used my cd deck's and on the mixer the track just clipped the red in the master .. should i recordat just a tad lower volume.. i use my laptop usually so this i river is new.. and a lot easier and smaller too

uploading the result now. just a small section of the track. will post it soon
