So i want to start DJing, only in my house or small parties..i have been using ableton but you all know its not the same feeling. Ive been reading through the forum but i cant made up my mind. I have around 1700 $ (maybe i can push it a little bit more), Should i go with a pair of CDJ 400 and a DJM 400, or a pair of CDJ 200 and a 3-channel mixer (maybe a allen&heath). Whats the big difference between the CDJ 200 and the CDJ400?

Re: Equipment dilemma
the 400's have more options, but as a beginner dj, you are probably not going to be using those functions...hell even the bigger dj's don't use the functions most cd players have. I say go with the 200's and the 400 mixer...the 400 mixer is really nice and it's only 2 channel, which since they also have switchable line inputs, you could in the future add a third deck...perhaps a turntable. If you did this, you'd have some $$ left over to maybe even buy a nice set of powered speakers to help you if you decided to do your own night at a local bar. -
Re: Equipment dilemma
Thanks for the input Jeffrey, been watching some of the video demos from the 200's and looks pretty much what i need right now. I will go with the 200's and the DJM-400 as you told me...gonna save those bucks for later. Any ideas for headphones??filthy boyComment

Re: Equipment dilemma
i own a cdj 200 and i cant stand it.. imo spend the extra cash and go with the 400's.. they have more features you may not use this is true, but the vinyl emulation is a nice added feature. plus the option to plug in a HD or Flash Drive and read mp3 files from an external source is a GREAT feature
also, with my 200, sometimes it has issues reading cd's that work perfectly fine on my cdj800 and my mates cdj1000.
or if you dont need all those bells and whistles, go with the cdj800 mkII's. I believe you can pick those up cheaper than the 400's and they are a solid piece of equipment.
as far as headphones, thats al personal perference mate.. i love the sony's

Re: Equipment dilemma
i've had the cdj200s for awhile now and used to be a big fan. now i pretty much can't fking stand them. traktor scratch live + 1200s = bliss. if i were going back to cdjs tho, i wouldn't use anything less than the 800, and they're not that much more money over the 400.Comment
