Re: Bloody Ell
lol... does he have that kind of money nowadays?
At the end of the day, Chelsea took the decision to sack him. They didn't have to, but they CHOSE to. Would it not have made more sense to stick him in the reserves until someone made an offer for him, or to just sell him straight away rather than sack him and write off his transfer value?? They at least would have made some money that way.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not condoning what Mutu did. What he did was stupid and idiotic, considering he is in the public eye and (at the time) idolised by young children. But if this ruling is upheld, then there is no common sense left in the world of sport. What Mutu did was in his private life. It's not as if it's performance enhancing or he was doing it off Dermot Gallagher's head at half time!
Could you imagine the precident this would set if it went through and Mutu was ordered to pay that money?? Doesn't bare thinking about. Football clubs would start sacking people for any reason, and not be brought to justice for it because they can just reclaim money from the player!
As a side note, if the fine is directly proportionate to the transfer fee, if Rio Ferdinand got caught doing the same thing, he'd have to shell out about £20million! Oh well, he'd have to wait another fortnight for the 12 acre extention to his home.
