Oh is it that time again?

I'm sure the signal to noise ratio is much worse now.

But if you're moaning about the amount of junk to filter out ... what about the old days when a DJ went record hunting physically, and spent hours and hours listening to stacks of records? Your weekly visits to the shop. Isn't it the same thing? Or you fellas never actually did that ... so where did you get music from before the interweb

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

Yeah so many influences globally now, all sorts of influences are creeping
into the music, plenty of variety that was not overtly there before.
For example, listening to the Dusty Kid set, which may not be for everyone
but there are plenty of various influences, some bordering on the cheesy
yet there is some flavor to the mix. Whether we like it or not, the music will continue to evolve or devolve based on point of view. I feel the music has become more club oriented in the past year, more big room sounds than in the previous years, yet it may just be the sets I have listened to lately, always attempt to mix it up. Really diggin all the progressive stuff Alican & Sonar, Kintar & Rex, Victoria R, Greg Benz and Jody from WOW, for the prog heads that style is still out there very up to date, even forward thinking, hopefully that has to do with all these others styles floating around our collective ears.

What I meant by that was, back in the day even before online records shops, it seemed that there was a lot more quality music that was being produced even it wasn't particularly something that I wouldn't play myself. I'm sure it would cost a lot more for a record label to distribute their music on vinyl so they were probably a lot more picky about the tracks they decided to sign. There is just a LOT more cheese nowadays then there used to be.

I believe the digital age has actually given us even more !! People with talent but no actual training can now access that talent!!

I think there is heaps and heaps of really good music which is why I can't understand why everyone here is playing that shit minimal stuff. I have gone from mild dislike to absolute hatred.! Went to see Anthony Pappa saturday night. Would have been one of the best sets I've ever heard except for the minimal interludes spread throughout the set. It's going to be on Moments, will be interesting to see how he edits it.

              Re: What do you think?

the problem right now IMO is that there are too many Djs playing whatever the "cool tunes" are instead of actually trying to play their own sound.
there are too many formulaic tunes out there too that sound good but are really just the same old recycled shit.
but there is plenty of good stuff too. people who complain need to do more searching IMO - both Djs and those like me who just listen to sets and don't buy tunes.

spoiled ass djs these days. you used to have to wait for the mail to come, or drive down to the store to dig through crates and pick em out. now, you have to sit in front of your computer for a few more minutes to get what you want and the jams aren't all jumping out at you instantly for you to quickly download....OH THE AGONY!!!

Man sifting through the racks and crates of recs at Neptune in Tampa use to be my weekly ritual. i used to love jamming out to the newest stuff while looking down at all of the traffic there on Dale Mabry. I'd spend hours trying to find the gems, but it was part of the game, I loved it. that place was like a clubhouse. Ahhh reminiscing. goodtimes.

If ya can't put in the time to find the gems, what make you think that they should just appear right before your eyes without any effort?? This mentality is exactly what is wrong with young people these days...You guys think that everything should be handed to you...It's a shame, really.

                              Re: What do you think?

i think what he was saying is that there are so many shit tunes out that it takes so much longer to find even decent ones. now that everything has gone digital, there is no incentive to make sure every record that is put on a site is good. it just has to be 4/4, practically.

when vinyl was the only medium, it required record companies to really hunt down what was good, try it out, and get feedback on it. thus, with the vinyl medium, the quality of every record was very high. Now that just about any track that is ever mixed down on a computer can be found on the internet...the number of shit tunes goes up, and quality, while available, is nonetheless way harder to find.

who wants to spend 20 hours on beatport just to find 5 good tunes? tunes that will be outdated in weeks time. Just not efficient it seems.
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles
