I'm curious to know just how many people can say they are truly satisfied with the quality of music that's being released nowadays. I personally feel that there is more shit thats being produced (in all genres) in the last few years than ever before.

I agree that there still is some good quality stuff out there but there is just so much garbage being released on a daily basis that it just makes it really frustrating to spend the time on a site like beatport to sort through all the garbage.Comment

Really depends what style(s) of music you are talking about.
Technology has really allowed more people to attempt to create music as well as distribute it more freely, cheaper, but there are still artists out there putting quality stuff. Music to me is somewhat generational the stuff I grew up listening for the most part will never be outdone, just personal bias, but in the dance music realm I am constantly amazed on the amount of fresh material in DJ sets or/and live. Lastly, it has always been about digging through the shite to find that hidden gem you can call your own, a track or two everyone else is overlooking that is what makes the music better as well as a DJ set.Originally posted by ShpiraSo came back last night...
Sven Vath was amazing...he played a god damn killer set...ended up going to that and came to at like 10 am in some whore house in south Amsterdam...no idea how I ended up there...friday was a bit of a blur got really drunk and visited several parties can't remember a whole lot to be honest hehe...saturday was probably the best day that I recall...started up in the nearest coffee shop and going from party to party...beautiful woman, beer and weed...finished the night by taking some shrooms and listening to an amazing elke kleijn set...sunday...i met a nice girl who worked at one of the coffee shops and ended up talking to her for like 6 hours...was supposed to meet her at some DnB party...but instead went for a steak and walked around red light district bars drinking and smoking...monday took it easy went to a coffee shop and took a taxi to airport....
All in all...I think I will be going back there some time soon

You hit the nail on the head! There is still quality stuff out there but the digital age has made it easier for people with no musical talent whatsoever to produce and distribute their garbage. I kinda miss the old vinyl days. It seemed there was less trash to filter through and easier to find those hidden gems back then.Comment

i wasn't digging in the old days but i suspect it was easier to find a gem and hold on to it with some exclusivity. the sheer volume results in more crap, and undoubtedly part of it is people w/ no musical training being able to produce tracks at home on a computer and distribute. still, plenty of great tracks come from unknown producers, and i'll bet it keeps seasoned vets on their toes and we're better off.Comment

you all know where i stand. there really is no soul in the music anymore. they easy way out with the technology today has largely produced less-than-mediocre records. the best of what is available today is not nearly as good as the average records that were once put out a few years back. today, music is forgetable. "click-it-and-forget-it" as i say.you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

Ive been impressed with 2008 so far. 2007 was a good year for music. Many mix cds that came out were excellent, like Diggers Transitions series and Dave Seamans Therapy Sessions, as well as Steve Lawlers VIVA London and Dubfire and Nick Warren's GUs. 2006 is about where music started getting better after the horrible electro phase everyone went through, but 2007 to Now have been much better and I have enjoyed alot of current mixes and tracks. It isn't the same as the older music I love and listen to frequently, but it is a nice complement to it and there are some great tracks and mixes out in the last few years. I have also been amazed at the club nights ive gone to. Ive seen Dave Seaman, John Digweed, Danny Howells,and Sasha recently and they have all been amazing just as they always have been."Always........Dancing in My Mind"Comment

maybe i'm in the minority, but the newer sets and crazy stuff i'm finding makes the old days --nostalgic stuff that turned me on to the scene-- sound old and stale. i love this music more every day. since there's so much out there catching some great stuff makes it all the more satisfying. i actively search and it's not always easy but i love the sounds i find and have no gripes.Comment
