Sometimes I think dance music should stay out of politics, and be more of an 'escape' from politics, but there are other times when I think things are so pressing and important to all of us that we should use any opportunity to encourage people to know more about the issues.
This is one of those times, unfortunately.
Recently I remixed Kobbe & Nitro's 'America' track with the intention it would be out before the election, but the label still hasn't gotten it out. I decided to finish up an alternate 2nd mix that I was working with and release it for free on my site ( http://www.kellyd.com ).
No matter what your views are on the election, my hope is that people will feel the need to become more informed, and that the 'young' vote will be heard. I can't tell you who to vote for, especially since it could be portrayed as 'buying' your vote with a free giveaway, but I can tell you to try very hard to read between the lines of what the two parties and the media are telling you.
Both parties stretch the truth, and as Jon Stewart pointed out so powerfully on Crossfire, the media has become just another apparatus of both parties.
Use the internet, read opposing viewpoints, and then take everything with a grain of salt and think for yourself.
I don't mean to lecture, but it's important to me that four years from now I still be able to have the ability to release a track with a strong opinion like the one I'm making available today.
