DJ Babu- The Beat Tape Vol. 1 (2007)
Here's something for the Beat Junkie fans. No question the Beat Junkies are behind 50% of the dopest beats in hip-hop over the last 10+ years. I don't think there has been any better marriage of technical skill and production skill from a DJ crew than The Beat Junkies. DJ Babu himself has been involved with Dilated Peoples of course, Visionaries, Defari and has done more than his share of guest appearances on the decks for artists like Planet Asia, D-Styles, Swollen Members, Rasco and others. He is also responsible for numerous mix tapes and CDs, namely Duck Season 1 & 2.
This release is exactly what it says it is--a beat tape. Nothing but dope beats for the bedroom DJ/MCs out there or just a nice set of tracks to throw in the car when you need something dope to play loud for the suckers down the block. Where I live, it's mostly old people in my neighbourhood so they love it when I drive by playing hip-hop. They'd much rather I play Benny Goodman or Frank Sinatra but that won't be happening anytime soon. Enjoy the CD, it does have track titles but they won't mean anything to you so I didn't bother including them.
