sallie mae is fine. different type of security and most student loans are insured by teh FDIC.
freddie and fannie are government supervised companies who buy the specific security of mortgage notes and then combine and convert them into either governemnt bonds, treasury notes or some other things. if they collapse, they cannot issue these bonds because they loose thier footing (base value of company they use to back up the security). the overwhelming book they keep would be sold off to outside factoring companies and other banks with equity/assest holdings suffcient to guarantee the return of the security. the less applicable loans would be considered for a write off as a defaulted loan. the people would still owe, but the loan would be sold off for a loss from the P.O.V. of the issuing or servicing agent. they would take, say 70 cents on the dollar for the defaluting loan, and sell it for a loss, then the buyer would service the loan until either forclusure or completion of term.your life is an occasion, rise to it.
