                Ok narrowed it down ... I think one of my subscription filters in adblock plus is blocking out the avatars for some strange reason.

                I don't know how to unblock just the avatars though, without unlocking the whole site.

                    Woo hoo all good now. It was the ABP tracking filter subscription in Adblock Plus that was causing the problem. A new update fixes it. I can see all your ugly mugs now.
