I'm basically agreeing with an earlier point. It all sounds the same to me. Listen to a Moments show from Pappa - same bleeps and beats etc. Sounds like one boring track.
don't get me wrong you all know i love the old school bizzniss. but being the true progressor that i am, i fully embrace what music has progressed in to, whether it be some disgusting bass-ridden tek prog, or some driving chunky minimal with melodic elements buried within it. the music we love so dearly is going to keep changing, and as far as i'm concerned that is the very definition of "progressive"
this music is going to evolve and grow, and expand, and regress, and progress, and after that it's going to do it all over again. i can't even begin to imagine what our beats are going to sound like in another 5 years.
bravo, well said.
you have almost this same debate in hip hop music today, you have the old schoolers who loved tupac/biggie/wutang etc and then you have the new schoolers, dirty south rap that always argue what is hip hop and what isnt hip hop. the fact is the music evolved and you will always have a group wishing it was the way it used to be because the new shit always sucks, sound familiar?
i say......evolve, or get left behind with your records and cassette tapes (theres nothing wrong with that either)
But I'm not whacked out and never will be my friend. It doesn't say much for the integrity of the music if you have to be whacked out on drugs to hear it.

exactly mate....and that is probably why we are not feeling the new "evolved" progressive as I guess we are calling it...
In terms of prog I suppose it depends on the type of prog ... is it the really dark stuff (Sasha or JD in early 2001), is it the very cool housy stuff (Sander's EM's) or is it the trance influenced stuff (Sasha's GU) ?
Xpander and Heaven Scent are nearer to trance and it's no coincidence that Trance DJ's are playing remixes of these 2 x tracks.
The T word has become dirty and uncool .. hence the gravitation to minimal etc.
I've been dragging out a load of Oakeys sets lately and there are some seriously great tracks, but of course Paul is uncool. I've just been enjoying his Glastonbury hotmix from 2000 which starts with Cass 'n' Slide - Perception (Vocal Mix) ... now that to me is very very cool.
But then, hey ... I just like good music regardless of tags or trends. The diverser the better.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.
Prog has somehow alsway been a bit of an 'odd one' in the house scene, there's only few people I've met that actually know what i menat when I said that I spin progressive house. In Holland there's a good underground scene, but nothing more, it is and probably will remain underground. Techno is bigger, but then again the real deal here is is crappy trance music.
Still, what strikes me always is that when people hear it, they always love it. Techno lovers, trance lovers...even hardcore people (although they like it as an ambient mix). It's just too deep for people, and the more i think about it, the more the term "classical music of house music" applies. It takes an effort, and that is exactly what keeps listeners away in a society that is all about superficious entertainment.
Well, I just played as an opening set in a Trance/Progressive Trance concert, and according to the feedbacks that are still coming in, it seems that I stole the show....(oups, my bad, lol)
Now how the hell am I gona be convinced that progressive house is dead?!
If something is the subject of your attention or affection, I'd hardly say it's dead. Even Elvis is in some way still very much alive I'd say, albeit in the minds of many people rather than in physical form.
Don't let people convince you of anything, go out and make them see that what you love is very much alive and worthwhile!

Indeed, Elvis is still is the building, he has never left....
I sill think prog has a place. I still enjoy a good set of it. I also embrace the progression of music as we know it also. I understand that minimal is the next step that this music has taken and i can throw down with it, but a set entirely composed of minimal is just not my forte. I like a set that spans different genres. I have noticed that minimal and techno is about all you get here in Germany. its cool every now and then but i prefer somewhat of a different groove throughout the night. As for prog, keep on rockin it. it is definitely hard to top a good prog set.
