no you dont, what i was trying to say is i would probably have to be chemically induced to enjoy some of this current direction/ minimal sound that has seemed to take over the scene, call me stuck in the past but i just dont get it..........& apparantly i am in the minority

some good old deep progressive house I can listen to comletely sober and can feel it like nothing else

It's not so much minimal that is shit 'cos some of the old deep prog stuff are very sparse and minimal in their own way. It's the lack of groove in a lot of minimal music today that's making it so difficult to dance or listen to.

Personally I think minimal has the most complex grooves to hit Edm yet.
Progressive was always good at melody and emotion, but lacked a complex and intersting groove. Minimal, today, has combined the two. Minimal is super diverse from dark to light, hard to fluffy, tripped out to straight forward.
I think the biggest problem with minimal is, djs that don't know how to build a set with it. They don't know how to keep it 'progressing'.

I guess there's no progress without a little self-reflection...this should be an ongoing process IMHO.

couldnt disagree with you more...to me most of minimal music sounds horrible... doesnt make much sence to me at all.

progressive is so complex and has a deep emotinal groove that takes you on a continuous journey...

progressive is in my blood. thank good ness there are a select few djs still out there who live and breathe this sound ( sudam crew for one)...becuz most of the world has given up on it.

yeah, jsut because something is more intricate and more layered and over produced doesnt make it better.. IMO a lot of minmal tries way too hard to be relevant

By it's very nature I don't think minimal is complex, it's called minimal for a reason!

Hmmm ... minimal music can be complex and intricate and create a sense of space, but the beats are pretty standard, as are the basslines. I find my groove in a track's bassline.

Minimal music I find can be quite stimulating on the mind to listen to, but it just doesn't get my body moving. If I had to listen to some minimal music on the dancefloor, you'll find me twitching / flailing my limbs trying to follow.

I heard that electro-house is taking over the progressive as well, not only minimalz...and thats sounds really catastrophic to me...

                                Re: Progressive [House] Music: Status

A story between me and electro music, i'm remembering this now:

Once I was having a fitting and show setup for a major fashion here in Lebanon, and while we (the models) were practicing on the catwalk there was a dj playing his music for us to walk on the beat etc, and he was playing mainly electro coupled with electro-house.

I couldn't stand that music for no longer than 15 min or so, it was stronger than me: So I just broke away from the catwalk and went straight to him behind the coulisse (everybody was kinda surprised to see me suddenly break the catwalk). I was surprised to find a friend of mine, a dj of Buddha-Bar Beirut, and I told him (with determination): "Sweety, or you change your music NOW or I am out of this fashion coz your music is giving us (models) more headaches than helping us walk: You are not inspiring us whatsoever. And if you don't have tracks, I can can give you some for you to play for this fashion..."

When I returned to the catlwalk all the models, designer, make-up artists and everybody there were like waiting for me and laughing coz they heard me through the closed curtains; (they all knew I was Shiva)

The poor guy quickly stopped the music and looked for something less electro to play, he kinda panicked; since then I have never seen him play for a fashion again....lol
