"Capture high-SPL sources without clipping thanks to an extended input gain range and built-in analog input limiter."

"Drop in markers while recording BWF files and easily find your place when editing your content. Easily organize and locate your files in the field with a user-created folder structure."

"Pro-quality preamps complete with full 48V phantom power will work with your favorite condenser microphones virtually anywhere you need to capture audio—all the way up to 24-bit/96kHz. "

        MP3 alternative to laptop

I was thinking about buying something like this http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cg...item/ED-R-09HR to record my live sets. It would be nice to carry this small device around instead of my laptop ! Does anyone use anything similar to this ? Any recomendations ?

        Thanks

I had opened a thread once asking the same question, and a lot of recommendations came in, but I wouldn't know how to retreive that post...

No-one ever came up with a recommendation for a discreet mic.

I've got a little sony one that came with a recording Walkman years ago (recorded some jazz concerts) ... but I'm sure there's a decent little one out there.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

the r-09 was mentioned, as its built-in mic does pick up pretty damn nicely...I haven't used it on music yet, but recorded speakers sitting ~20' away (no mic on them) and it picked up beautifully...

there is a new version of the R-09, which has better mics. Better build quality and better everything else. It would be my buy if I had the money. I try to stay away from M-audio gear.

If you check out the 12K forum you can find out a lot about these kinds of recorders.

I have an iriver h340 to record into - can record line-in, mic-in, internal mic or radio.

memory is 30gig and records straight to mp3 so well handy..

plug in usb cable and it just pops up as a drive so easy to organise/copy/paste etc a la windows folders.

i download straight to it and upload straight from it so works well for me..

i know of a bunch of people who still use the old Sony MD recorders. Whatever works best for what you wanna do.

Is anyone using the MTII with RCA to 1/4" TS adapters/cables? Are you experiencing "clicking" in your recordings? Has anyone tried the MTII using RCA to 1/8" adapter/cables?
I just read info on the MicroTrackII site that M-Audio recommends using the 1/8" input for unbalance line input (like from RCA outputs) and the 1/4" input from balanced 1/4" or xlr output sources. The MTII 1/8" is marked "Mic" and there is a way to turn off phantom power.
On the other hand, the Editrol R-09hr has 1/8" Line input and 1/8" Mic input with different impedance levels. No option for balanced input.

Acclaimed audio interfaces, studio monitors, and keyboard controllers

"To record with the MicroTrack II's 1/4” inputs, you must record from a balanced source with TRS balanced cables. If you are recording from an unbalanced line level source or a microphone with an unbalanced (TS) cable, use the 1/8” input instead; connecting unbalanced cables to the 1/4" TRS inputs yields an audible clicking sound that is recorded. You can change your input source from the MicroTrack II’s Main Menu>Record Settings>Input Source.
If you are recording with a phantom powered condenser microphone, you must use a TRS balanced cable; please see this article."
