    Beastie Boys - 19/10/04...

I know this is predominantly an EDM board. BUT I just wanted to share with you my experience of one of the best non EDM shows I have seen in ages.
The Beastie Boys were in town last night at the St Pete Times Forum. And what a hell of a show they put on.

Starts out on the video screen you see Mix Master Mike behind one of the bars finishing his beer, and climbs over the bar, and comes down the stairs thru the crowd a la Roy Jones Jr. Climbs up on stage, up to his roost behind the decks, and rips it up for a good 5 minutes of mayhem, video screens behind him showing the wicked hand movements and unrelenting scratching. As I said, back to old school when hip hop was about the music, not about what you drove or what jewelry you had on.
Then come out the Boys.. Mike D, MCA, and the King.. jump suits, baseball hats side ways and just acting fools on stage, having a party that we were all invited to. For about 45 minutes running thru an anthology of what made them whet they are, pioneers of a lost art. With video screens and some amazing visuals, they captivated about 20,000 people, on their feet the whole time.

After a 5 minute break, they came out on a mibile stage, in tuxedos and had a sweet jam session.

Then to close it up, out again in old B-Boy gear, and ripped thru another 45 minute session of Beastie faves from Paul Revere to Brass Monkey and a whole lot more. With Mix Master Mike keeping the beat on bloody point the whole time, going thru record after record, and even mixing in a dvd of an old Stevie Wonder video, in which he was scratching it up with that too!

The encores were very nice.. up in the crowd on the second level, no monitors, just 3 mates (or 3 mc's and one dj) having a party with a few thousand people...
And closed out the night with a slammin version of SABOTAGE.

I know this is a long read, but I had such a good time, it was an amazing vibe, and a great party.

As long as I can remember, the Beasties always knew how to put on a fine show and I wish they would come someplace near Slovenia, so I could see them again.

          Thanks for the review!
I was 12 when I fell in love with the Beastie Boys and the hip hop sound...We were 7 of us in the whole city in Hungary, in the 80s noone knew anything about Mike D, MCA and King Ad-Rock. We stole VW signs and while everyone was rockin for Bon Jovi we painted graffiti all over the city.
Good Times!! I haven't stopped partying ever since I've listened to No Sleep till.. I had a chance to see them live in Budapest in 92

I love the Beastie Boys... I remember back in 86 (?) when all the VWs round our way had their badges nicked so people could wear them. Some very unhappy drivers...

yes everything was incredible....it was so amazing to see such "old-school" icons use technology so well, yet keep it "old-school"...I've seen some shows but this one blew me away. The visuals and sets were really trippin me out at times add the mix of the lyrical masters, the baddest freestyle beats ie mix "absolutely a" master mike, and a shite-load of party people and you have one hell of a party, nothing short of MAYHEM!!!!........IF YOU CAN GO TO THIS SHOW!!!....its certainly worth it............did i mention how good it smelled in there?
i'm not a real dork i just play one on the internet.......

I agree, and that is apparent by the replies to the thread here. I think because they just have fun with what they do, and have always evolved with the rimes, but never forgot what they are all about.. The MUSIC!

Oh hell yeah. I was at the show at the garden in NYC a few weeks back and the boys really rocked (as always). I haven't missed them on tour since License to Ill (with Run DMC...now there was a crazy ass show!) and I hope I never have to. I even missed out on the tix for the show, but made sure to pick some up some on ebay...worth every penny The Beasties really know how to throw on a party atmosphere. They even brought out Doug E. Fresh who beatboxed "Time To Get Ill" and gave respects to DMC, who was at the show. Sabotage was insane as well.

Oh and if you haven't heard, the MSG show was taped (including like 20 cameras taken by people in the crowd) and will be made available on dvd sometime soon!
"Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
                        Dance like nobody's watching.
                        Sing like nobody's listening.
Live like it's Heaven on Earth."
