Magda has been horrible everytime I have seen her live.
WHAT ????
no seriously
WHAT ?
shes outstanding, you should come over to the arches in glasgow and see her play there, saw her last year and actually met her, she wasnt only an exceptionally nice person and down to earth but she blew the dancefloor appart.
I just wished I had recorded that Marathon set I played last year in an afterhours club: It was from 4:00am till 10:00am, non-stop, on-the-fly, played 95 trx....and boy, I just wish you were there!!!
You and me both. I'm not a senseless She-Jay basher, just wanted to express an opinion I thought there was more than a grain of truth in. It's anoying that within two days a podcast and a live mix that should have been amazing were made almost unlistenable by shoddy work(wo)manship.
i really like anja's music and was excited to hear her also. ive found the same thing and have listened to about 8 sets.
the only thing i can say in her defense is that she isn't a dj, but a producer and like james holden, maybe she will get better as time goes on. james holden did.
there are girls who can totally fucking rock it tho.
FALCON wrecked that club when me and newland were out for his show with kazell. i remember that intro set, sitting there with you, your wife and your cousin just in shock.
add eve to the list.
your life is an occasion, rise to it.
Join My Chant. new mix. april 09. dirty fuck house.
download that. deep shit listed there
there are girls who can totally fucking rock it tho.
But do you see any truth in the assertion that there are female DJ's who are being booked more because they are competent (but not particularly gifted) DJ's AND they are female. As Shiva pointed out, the ratio male to female DJ's is massively skewed, so do you think the 'novelty' factor of having a female behind the decks may be influencing promoters choices more than they perhaps should?

yea i defo think there are loads of females who can't mix and get up on stage and prance about looking beautiful and trainwrecking, but unfortunately that mostly has to do with what WE buy into. a lot of people buy into a beautiful girl djing because its a beautiful girl djing. a lot of people won't care what they play like, what music they are playing, etc.
i've been going around and around with this in my head... can you name a guy dj who has gotten huge by being hot? the only one i can think of is sasha, and thats not really true because he could mix before he was a posterboy dj. and even if that person, boy or girl is hot, they still need to have something to back it up. maybe they weren't good at the start but they've gotten better.
about anja, i really don't think we can say much about her getting to where she is solely on being a female. she is a really great producer. she makes her own music and has her own label. she works hard in the industry. another would be cassy, she works hard and makes her own music. there are lots of us out there now and there are more females working in the industry than there ever has been.
if you guys like breaks really check out janette slack. she is amazing. there are girls out there who fucking kill it.
sorry i think i also just want to say, there are loads of guys who can't mix either. you have no idea how many times i've heard about so and so being fucking amazing and then seeing them and just being shocked.
