    My computer... from hell!

Ok, so I just bought and installed my AMD 3200 64 chip on a Asus K8V K8T800 DDR-400 motherboard. All has been working great for about a month when all of a sudden it freezes up. I hit the reset button and now my HD light stays on the whole time.

I've been taking it apart and realize my HD won't spin. If I unplug the IDE cable it spins. If I plug the IDE cable back into the HD it stops spinning.

I've also noticed that if there's NOTHING plugged into the IDE ports on the motherboard, the HD light goes off... if I plug something in, the HD light stays on!

Does anyone have ANY idea what's going on??!?!

Wow. Thats interesting. BTW, you should start posting this sort of thing in MercuryEngine, or at least, ALSO post it there.

So, as for the issue. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Have you tried a different cable? That would be the first thing I would do, a new IDE cable, and make sure its an 80 pin conductor cable. You'll know if its not because Bios will let you know either right before it checks the drives connected to the motherboard or right after.

Yes, I've tried a new cable and still nothing... OH YEAH, I FORGOT TO MENTION, bios won't even start up. When I hit the power button to start up my computer, the red light stays on and my monitor doesn't detect anything.

Usually when you turn on your computer the monitor will come out of sleep mode and display something. Well it acts like it's not getting a signal at all. I know my monitor works becuse I was just using my laptop on it.

thanks for the heads up, I'll throw this on MercuryEngine right now.

Typically when I've had problems like your describing above (monitor won't come) it because I've either gotten a bad processor or I burned it up. I'm think that what you may have.

Thanks for the help but I've just come to the conclusion that it's my CPU. I've replaced everything from the motherboard to the power supply and still nothing. Sucks that this shit is just a little over a month old too!
