    dual rack mount cd players

so i've decided to get back into djing and being a grad student, don't have tons of cash to whip out (except on class supplements!). Anyways, was curious if anyone still uses these or have an opinion on them? I saw some on PSSL.com that cost only 200 dollars and figured it would keep me back into mixing at a lower cost. I've already got 1200's and about 2000 records I still like, but didn't want to fork out the load of money on more vinyl if i can get it digitally. http://www.pssl.com/GEMINI-DUAL-RACK-MOUNT-CD-PLAYER or http://www.pssl.com/Stanton-C500-Dual-CD-Player

To be honest, what nudged me forward was listening to Jeff Collins's latest track.

So, was curious if these are good for djing? I mean, as far as pitch and cuing go. I don't really need crazy effects, i try to represent the artist without tweaking thier work. I suppose the contrary question is how do they rank up against table top players, and are they singificantly better to warrant paying that extra money?
you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

i have no idea but if i were you i would try the midi controller and software route just incase you fall out of love with it again...most dj inspired midi controllers will come with some free dj software with it which is usually traktor le...with the stanton u dont really have much control over the cd unless u can ride the pitch well which will take loads of practice but i,m no expert on it as i havnt done that kind of thing in absolutely years

you can go with M-Audio Torq, if you have a pc, then you can use your 1200 to mix with. If you have a laptop that would make it even better.

It's the less expensive option to Traktor Scratch Live/Serato.

would it matter if I had a 2-channel Pioneer Mixer as opposed to a four channel one?

nope, it doesnt really matter, hell! it doesnt really matter if you have a mixer or not, the thing has an internal mixer.

personally i would highly recomend the thing. Basically what you do is you connect the audio interface that is provided to your laptop, then you run the program, plug your tables to the interface and outputs to your mixer, voila!! you got yourself a set up.

what you get is an audio interface, 2 specially coded vinyls and 2 specially coded cd's. pretty damn good for the price. The only problem i found with the thing is that you must have a decent laptop to run the program, because the program uses a lot of cpu and memory, other than that the thing kicks some serious ass.

so the question is, and i hate to be so dense with this stuff because laptop djing is a foregin language to me

so if i wanted to record a mix on my laptop from my mixer, i would have to run Torq and the recording programme, and i wanted to mix from vinyl on deck one to mp3 on channel 2, then mix in an mp3 from chanel 1, and then mix in a record from deck2, i could do it?

i was just looking at ebay for this kind of thing last night and found a nice American Audio Dual Cd player that I played on for around a year with my old residency. I really dug that thing. Now I can get one for way cheaper.

yes all that is posible. the interface has two big knobs that give you the posibility to play either your vinyl or an mp3 straight from your laptop.

to record your sets, you would have to have the recording program running on the background while torq is running all you have to do, is get a conection from your master output in your mixer to the line in of your laptop.
another way to do it, is to mix with the internal mixer that the program has, you just press a button and it starts recording.

you can check out some of the info at the torq forum.

for the price, i think thats the way to go, lets say you keep on djing and then start getting gigs around town, you just pack your laptop, your audio interface and control vynils and thats it, youll be set to go.
