here's an example of mono, notice the identical waveforms:

Now here's stereo, notice the different waveforms:

ok man I'm just making sure. It's an elusive problem for three reasons:

        1. credibility: trust me, these files that I speak of are in mono
        2. not everyone can pick up the difference between stereo and mono
        3. it's only on about half the sets from January 2008 and on, so some will be perfect. These past two weeks are an example. July 27th, mono. August 3rd, stereo

I've never in my life been in a situation where an audio file downloaded in mono on my computer and stereo on someone else's. I would ask you or others to confirm with a phase check, save the remaining "side" info, and then email it to me, but that's going to be a hassle.

Well, it's unlistenable to me, what can I say. Especially listening on headphones, where everything's coming from dead center in the middle of my forehead.

But I shouldn't have to justify this problem- it's a problem and should be fixed because it's the right thing to do.

No it's a stereo waveform image I found on google to get my point across.

Seriously, I could load up a couple of these things in Live, slap a Utility on there with the Width at 200% and then send you the results of July 27th. The resulting silence + MP3 distortion proves that it was 1 channel of audio information fed to both left and right and then encoded as MP3. In other words, it's a "stereo" file but stereo doesn't mean anything if both channels are the same.

In fact, I can have a 5.1 surround mix of mono, if I want. It doesn't matter what the file says.

Try odor absorbing pads with wings. They also block leakage, thus not ruining your day.

Yes sir, right on that sir. How about thanking the very people who upload these sets for you instead of moaning about some of them being in mono?? People have become so ungrateful these days....Get a life man....

Wow this is really sad. You still don't know what mono is. Mono doesn't only mean there is only one channel. It means there is the same thing coming out of x speakers. Perhaps I can introduce a new term: dual channel mono. This means that the same info is in each channel.

Please, don't try to argue you're way out of this- it's definitely happening. Some sets are dual channel mono, meaning that they "appear" to be in stereo if you looks at the file.

No one is listening- please go to audio school!!!
