Mate is fucking great because it;s so versatile. You'd say 'Alright mate?' to one of your oldest friends, 'Thanks mate' to someone who just sold you a newspaper you're never going to see again', or 'Mate...what you doing' to some fucking asshole who cracked on to your bird just before you knocked them on their ass.
