Re: John Edwards Admits to Affair
i'll approach this one from the "moral right" as i just hung with my old man, a stauch regan-republican (he dont like bush)
this isnt gonna help barak at all with the bible belt, christian right, as it just highlights another democrat with shitty morals and open lies.
barak's campaign should just tell the party itself to put a moratorium on speech until barak has his hand on the bible at capitol hill..........your life is an occasion, rise to it.

wow. so, let me get this straight. his wife gets cancer, and that means he can't look at another woman, sleep with another woman, or whatever?you could put an Emfire release on for 2 minutes and you would be a sleep before it finishes - Chunky

At least Edwards' affair was with a woman/person over 18/didn't involve diapers. Not praising him, just saying that when I think sex scandal, I don't really think about the Democratic Party. Not for a long time.Comment

Re: John Edwards Admits to Affair
OK, I totally thought you were joking with the initial response, but now I'm not so sure. I'll grant you that being married to a woman with cancer doesn't render you blind, but yeah, I'd have to say that sleeping with another woman while your wife is at radiation therapy is pretty tacky. Royal dick move, IMO. Call me old fashioned, but I actually believe in that "forsaking all others," in sickness and in health," and "until death do us part" stuff. What can I say, I guess I'm an old softy.Comment

ah. so you believe our morals are derivative of religion, which is to say, that of long dead old fucks with power and money. brill. i. ant.
toasty: he may be a dick, but immoral?
me? I would go sleeping around. but still, my own morality is my own decision based on my own beliefs and principles.

its not about realigions or any of that shit, when you get married you take on a commitment, simple as that, now this guy is a public figure, a politician whos leading example is one of the main reasons why people vote for him. So yes, hes open for public criticism...:: listen :: react ::..

Re: John Edwards Admits to Affair
I understand affairs can happen, but to do it while your wife has cancer seems pretty low. The timing is interesting as it seems that Edwards may be hoping the story gets buried in the Olympics opening day coverage. CNN and Fox are all over this though. The woman on CNN looks irritated btw.
The other thing is Edwards could still look worse if the kid ends up being his. At this point, he's saying that he had sex with that woman, but she's a tramp that gets around and probably got knocked up by someone else. So, he not only ruins his wife's reputation by cheating, but also the woman he had the affair with.Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake - Napoleon BonaparteComment

Re: John Edwards Admits to Affair
I can't say I'm shocked. I don't regard him as particularly "bad", but I never saw any real reason to trust him more than the next slick politician out there. First of all, he was a terrific trial lawyer, which suggests to me that he is expertly adept at spinning things whichever way is most appropriate for the situation. Second of all, he's a politician. Enough said.
Plus, all of you guys are missing the boat. Morals or not, the affair itself is not the real issue. It's normal, everyday crap that is regularly conducted by thousands of sleazeball men and women. What actually matters is that he essentially looked America in the face and blatantly lied through his teeth. With respect to this issue, he actively presented himself to us as something he was not. Then, once it was simply no longer in his favor to continue the charade, he's suddenly the most contrite person ever ("I'm so sorry... (that I got caught)...").
It was the exact same thing with Clinton. No one gave a shit what he actually did with Monica, it was the fact that he looked us all in the face and lied about it - under oath, too! And while it may not be illegal in all cases, Americans clearly have a right to nail their politicians' reputational asses to the wall when something like this happens, because no one likes to deal with someone who has proven him/herself to be nothing but a blatant, self-interested liar.
And all this simply underscores how much you can trust a slick, world-class trial lawyer and career politician

Re: John Edwards Admits to Affair
I disagree that no one cared about what Edwards or Clinton did only that they lied to cover it up. Plenty of people are upset about adultery especially women. After Spitzer got caught, lots of women I knew were mad at Spitzer for cheating.
I would expect Edwards or any other politician to lie or better just not bring it up. Bad things happen and handling things discreetly or privately is best. With Clinton, the Republicans really made it more political and impeached him. Even during the impeachment hearings, the Republicans wouldn't remove Clinton from office. They knew that his affair wasn't sufficient to remove him from office.
I never thought Edwards was one of the good ones nor do I think Obama or McCain are either. They are politicians and they can't change their stripes. Most if not all are power hungry egomaniacs.Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake - Napoleon BonaparteComment
