If you want real protection scrap the A/V and go with application whitelisting. I run Faronics Anti-Executable. When you first install it, it inventories your system and only allows those exe already present to run. If you want to install something new, you turn it off and install then turn Anti-Executable on again. Not only will you be more protected but you will free up system resources that A/V is currently taking up. You could run both if you want though.

this is a WICKED suggestion, am defo gonna try this sucker.

or run a 'live' os like ubunto from your pc/laptops memory
or use a vmware image of an os, you can wipe it within minutes and start afresh every other session
