desyn sez:to anyone interested, im passing this message through a good friend who has an account as i dont really do the message boards. i tend to find myself kinda getting addicted to them, and thats not good when ive already got an addiction to feed of new tunes all the time, preparing for sets... in turn to feed your addictions please know that although i dont post on boards or read them much i really care about everything any dance music fan has to say (depending on state of mind and time of morning of course)..because i was in brazil a few weeks ago and this mad doctor was properly gurning and rambling nonsense to me and although he was very nice i felt after 30 mins like i needed to escape.. i went out after the set to the dancefloor and he was following me around like a lost puppy, gurning like mad, chatting away. and there was one point where he looked at me with one eye pointing up to the sky and the other spiraling round his other eye socket and he said he was never going to do drugs again, and i said 'good for you'; and I asked him why and he said "because they are so f**ing good". mind boggling at 7am. my point is i care a lot about what everyone has to say (even the totally insane for up to about half an hour), and meet me at any gig and i will be there for you after playing, representing and ready to hear anything anyone has to say. the fans and the punters are the backbone of the scene, and whatever you have to say we want to hear.
this is a one of post because i just want to voice a few things in response to some of the messages from people.
about the recorded sets... ive not ever asked for a set to be removed from anywhere ever, there are tons of my sets out there. this set that popped up on mercury server i did not ask to be removed from the site... the peeps that recorded it were told not to give it out to anyone. they were told this because for many reasons we like to manage what goes out, i.e. how often stuff goes out, and of course what is on the sets (some stuff producers are strict about not going out on sets). as far as i know between the time of the set being recorded and them letting us know they had a recording and being told not to share the set some copies leaked... so in an attempt to honour our wishes of the set not being shared, they went around trying to remove it. i had no idea when they had done this that it was even out there, or were going to try and remove it till after they had. dont be too hard on them though, they were just trying to do what they thought was the professional thing at the time, and they were acting under serious amounts of stress as they take their work very seriously and felt that they had really let their clients down.
some people have mentioned im not playing solo anymore and also i heard some comments about what is sos all about really. its about 3 people merging everything into one whole... its 3 x 20 years of record collecting, its 3 x knowledge of the scene and the artists and labels, its 3 very close friends working to achieve a single artistic output and 3x the man hours that any one person could do on their own. when we play out live its 3 simulatious outputs.. that means one or two people can communicate and program the set live on the fly, while the other prepares accapellas, drum loops. efx for layering over the sets.. or two people playing the set b2b, while another is playing live percussion (omid recently using his drum kit live).. theres no rules, and because of this a huge amount of freedom for creativity. another scenario is if one person is playing a tune we can add efx to it. i.e. an echo... this is then fed into the central master mixer that another person has control of, and they can add another effect ontop of that.. so effectivly we combining equipment to create double or even triple effects that are impossible with one set of hands or one set of equipement.. hear us live and you will hear stuff you havent heard before. its a creative project that is in its youth and is evolving. also with the enourmous ammount of music out there with 3 people working on finding the best sounds.. its a much bigger net to catch the fishies in. where next we dont know and dont want to know, the element of the unknown in the future is something that encourages creativity. i came across a track the other day titled 'the further you look, the less you can see'... its kinda like that.
people that miss any of us in SOS playing out solo, we all do still play solo but the focus is on the group. we are working together very closely to produce something new, and always pushing its evolution. just hear the balance 13 mix.. this is something not any single one of us in the group could of produced on our own.. so its got to be worth the effort so far of focusing on the group and not the individual. and universe willing.... there will be lots more to come.
big love to all
