Party Report: [Lebanon Vs Europe] Shiva w/ A. Pappa
Re: Party Report: [Lebanon Vs Europe] Shiva w/ A. Pappa
I was going to say "pics or STFU" .. but it's safe to say you've taken care of us with the pics and vids - looks like a really cool event and great venue. Fantastic dark sounds.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Nooooo.... I won't stop playing proggy. But as music evolves I feel there is something more nasty for me out there to play. I feel the need of playing nastier beats with less feelings, the raw slashing killing beats to play at peak hours...i'm giving it a serious thought.
It's ok , in fact good, to throw in some of banging techo [love your description!]sometimes, but if you ever play minimal tech I will totally disown you. Btw the only thing wrong with Pappa's set here in Melbourne was that he did throw in some minimal. Which is good if you are listening, not so good if you are dancing. But you are right, he is brilliant! I still think that he is at his best playing that dirty, dark prog though!
For those of you who haven't downloaded his Darkbeat set . Get to it ! It's one of the best of the year!

Hey, thanx for the pics and videos - can't wait for the set! I'm really glad that Pappa is still throwing down his nasty dark beats. BTW, I give you two big thumbs up for the idea of you mixing in some techno...some dark nasty techno in the middle of a banging prog set would just take it to the next level! It'd be AWESOME!!!!
BTW, just got back from Pensacola a couple of hours ago, and it was amazing! It was great to meet the MS crew and Steve James, Steve Graham, and Hafid were INCREDIBLE on the decks!! Just a night/morning/afternoon/night of nothing but pounding, relentless beats! I'm sure there will be many more detailed reviews coming soon. I'm just too tired to think now (and thinking how jealous I am some of those guys are still there partying today!)
SOOO we need to start planning the next meet-up.

^^^ LOL.... No Didi, be sure of that, I am true to my sound and I will always be PROGRESSIVE!!!
But I would like to push my sound a bit further into the 132 range (now I stand at 130 and below) with some nasty stuff and no FEELINGS...those flat dirty techno sounds, just like Pappa's in the video I posted. He played 4 hrs of techno (Pappa Style) non stop, sometimes I wouldn't even know when he mixes coz the songs were all flat and similar, almost same kicks. But his magic stand in his groove, he is soo good with kicks, so complex and complete!
Although I was playing an opening set, I felt that I could not have totally satisfied that particular crowd that attended for the peak time, I felt there was a clear need for nastier stuff than the one I usually play.
I have seen Pappa live several times, this is maybe the 3rd gig, and he never impressed me as much as this time, in the past it was the classic prog monster. He hasn't played anything classic proggy of his, and he kinda opened a new vision in me of how I should have a wider range of music nastiness...lol. I think coupling techno (the dark & classy one that is) with my proggy should work just fine:
Warmup/opening= Prog
Main=Techno
Closing/After=Prog
That's my plan, but I don't know how much "classy" techno there is out there, Pappa is Pappa and they don't all play his style. I will have to investigate about techno artists... :P

Re: Party Report: [Lebanon Vs Europe] Shiva w/ A. Pappa
^ Well the mood started on smooth dark proggy mood with my tunes, as a warm-up set, then it started picking up with the dj that followed me, same goes for Pappa when he played the peak of the night, then it went back down a bit by the cosing dj. Very normal musical curve for a house concert. As an opening set you are bound to preserve a certain mellow uplifting mood, cannot go too fast; When I first started they were few people had arrived yet, but at my 3rd hour it was pretty packed (maybe around 3-4000) and were all jumping...that was in a dark mood (esp. me & Pappa)

Thanks for sharing the pics and vids, and your insite, looks like a great time!
I am glad Pappa was able to amaze and influence you like he has to me over the years! He is unreal and so humble when you talk to him in person.
Did you tell Pappa about MS? He is impossible to get ahold of on the web.

I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me
