Re: The Grudge
well I share a different opinion for this movie, probably because I have not watched or even knew of the Japanese version. I saw this movie last night with absolutely no idea of what to expect and there were a few reasons I thought the movie was good and some of the reasons I didnt think it was worth it..... but the good (IMO) overshadowed the reason why you should'nt see it.......
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE, PLEASE DONT READ THIS ANY FURTHER.....
The Bad
I must agree to what most say in here..... They could have done a much a better job with the casting Sarah and Bill were defo not my best choices either..... in fact that no named actor who played the part of the son who bought the house would have been a much better option...
Why wasn't the mother being affected in the beginning phases and why did she die when she did.....
and if Yoko the care-taker was a regular..... why did it affect her after so long when other were falling victims much quicker
why did the ghost choose to tango with Sarah at the time of the house burning when she had just fininshed merely looking at her boyfriend and finishing him off....
they showed no real build-up to the falling in love aspect... that was just balls imo.... a twisted journal was the only thing linking the two.... and wtf did he (bill) jump out of the balcony for ?? that was just weird... yea you saw a few dead people in a house but that wasnt good enough.....
The Good
Firstly, the idea that when death occurs in sorrow / rage.... it leaves behind a remnant of itself was absolutely fantastic.... death occurs in a variety of situations but I hadn't imagined one as described in the movie.....
They used a few extremely original ways of showing terror.... especially when the sister dies.... when the lights are going off in the stairs above and the apparition is making its way up from the bottom..... that I thought that was really cool...
how they fused a cat into the sequencing was VERY original..... esp in the beginning of the movie when the cries of the cat and the little child were mixed in and it was hard to tell which was what....
how the boy friend dies was very original..... no blood, no gore, just a ghost coming looking him dead in the eye and pulling the life out of him was very very good.....
The detective (Nagakawa I think) played his role very well.... intensely would be the word but not quite..... esp when he knew something very wrong was going on with anything related to the case.....
movie started off very well bringing so much obscurity and un-connected events into the same plot.... which I thought was neat.....
I could go on for a bit but I defo recommend seeing it with an open mind.... it definitely was better than "The Village" so yea... give it a go.... I"m gonna go check out "Saw" meanwhile....
