Why would McCain pick a Democrat for his VP?? Can anybody tell me what is goin on here with this.

Primary benefit from McCain's standpoint is putting forth the image of reaching across the aisle and working with people from the other party. It would be even more effective if he picked an actual Democrat, rather than a guy who hasn't done anything particularly Democrat-friendly for a while now. Not sure Joe Voter knows how far right Lieberman has strayed since he was Gore's VP, though, so maybe it will work out for him.
It has the potential to royally piss off the conservative base, though, b/c Joe is still pretty liberal on a lot of social issues, like abortion. The backlash would make the PUMA folks look like kittens.
